Log-amplitude and phase-correlation and structure functions of higher-order annular laser beams in a turbulent atmosphere are derived. A higher-order annular beam source is defined as the superposition of two different higher-order Hermite-Gaussian beams. A special case of such an excitation is the annular Gaussian beam in which two beams operate at fundamental modes of different Gaussian beam sizes, yielding a doughnut-shaped (annular) beam when the second beam is subtracted from the first beam. Our formulation utilizes Rytov approximation, which makes it applicable in the weak-turbulence regime, especially for log-amplitude fluctuations. Limiting cases of our formulations correctly match with known higher-order-mode solutions that in turn reduce to the Gaussian-beam-wave (TEM00-mode) results. Our results can be applied to determine the scintillation index and the phase fluctuations in free-space optics links under higher-order annular laser beam excitation. Except for the numerical evaluation of a specific example covering an annular Gaussian beam, the results in general are left in integral form and need to be numerically evaluated in detail to obtain quantitative results.

This article presents the nonlinear investigation of the thermal and mechanical buckling of orthotropic annular/circular single-layer/bilayer nanoplate with the Pasternak and Winkler elastic foundations based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. The stability equations of the graphene plate are derived using higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) considering nonlinear von Karman strains. Furthermore, this paper analyses the nonlinear thermal and mechanical buckling of the orthotropic bilayer annular/circular nanoplate.

During mitotic entry of vertebrate cells, nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) are rapidly disintegrated. NPC disassembly is initiated by hyperphosphorylation of linker nucleoporins (Nups), which leads to the dissociation of FG repeat Nups and relaxation of the nuclear permeability barrier. However, less is known about disintegration of the huge nuclear and cytoplasmic rings, which are formed by annular assemblies of Y-complexes that are dissociated from NPCs as intact units.

Scanning transmission electron microscopy tomography with ChromEM staining (ChromSTEM), has allowed for the three-dimensional study of genome organization. By leveraging convolutional neural networks and molecular dynamics simulations, we have developed a denoising autoencoder (DAE) capable of postprocessing experimental ChromSTEM images to provide nucleosome-level resolution. Our DAE is trained on synthetic images generated from simulations of the chromatin fiber using the 1-cylinder per nucleosome (1CPN) model of chromatin.

A nonlinear static analysis of a circular/annular nanoplate on the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory is presented in the paper. The governing equations of the graphene plate are derived using first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with nonlinear von Karman strains. The article analyses a bilayer circular/annular nanoplate on the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation.

Multifocal intraocular lenses incorporate a variety of design considerations, including dimensioning of the base monofocal shape and the diffraction grating. While studying three different lens models, we present a practical approach for mathematical modelling and evaluation of these geometries. Contrary to typical lens measurement methods, non-contact measurements were performed on the Alcon SN6AD1, HumanOptics MS 612 DAY and the AMO ZMA00 lenses using a confocal microscope.
