Investigated was the significance of semiquantitative tests of the peripheral visual field in glaucoma. For that purpose 793 visual fields of 793 glaucoma patients or glaucoma suspects and 338 visual fields of 338 normal controls (normal central 26 degrees--area) were analysed. Perimetry was performed with an Octopus 201 with the help of program G1, which tests 14 peripheral test locations. In the majority of the 455 glaucoma patients (pathological findings in the central visual field) the periphery was also disturbed. Much to our surprise however, the 338 glaucoma suspects (having normal central visual fields) showed the same frequency of peripheral visual field disturbance as the normals. This holds true for the total peripheral visual field, as well as for the individual test locations. Therefore it makes sense to limit perimetry in glaucoma patients to the central area, provided that the central area is quantitatively measured with an adequate testgrid.

Luminescent lanthanide compounds stand out for their distinctive characteristics including narrow emission bands, substantial Stokes shifts, high quantum yields, and unique luminescent colors. However, Ln is highly susceptible to vibrational quenching from X-H (X = O/N) high-energy oscillators in the embedded organic antenna, resulting in significant nonradiative energy dissipation of the D excited states of Ln. Herein, we introduce a strategy based on supramolecular interactions to modulate the nonradiative transitions in a new Zn-Tb heterometallic compound, [ZnTb(HL)(NO)Cl]·2CHCN·HO (), based on a phenyl-substituted pyrazolinone-modified salicylamide-imide ligand ().

In a novel, on-road study, using a 'Ghost Driver' to emulate an automated vehicle (AV), we captured over 10 hours of video (n = 520) and 64 survey responses documenting the behaviour and attitudes of pedestrians in response to the AV. Three prototype external human-machine interfaces (eHMIs) described the AV's behaviour, awareness and intention using elements of anthropomorphism: High (human face), Low (car motif), Abstract (partial representation of human features that lacked precise visual reference); these were evaluated against a (no eHMI) baseline. Despite many pedestrians reporting that they still relied on vehicular cues to negotiate their crossing, there was a desire/expectation expressed for explicit communication with future AVs.

Hippocampal representations of space and time seem to share a common coding scheme characterized by neurons with bell-shaped tuning curves called place and time cells. The properties of the tuning curves are consistent with Weber's law, such that, in the absence of visual inputs, width scales with the peak time for time cells and with distance for place cells. Building on earlier computational work, we examined how neurons with such properties can emerge through self-supervised learning.

Purpose Of Review: The use of stem cell therapy is a rapidly evolving and progressing frontier of science that has been used to treat illnesses such as malignancies, immunodeficiencies, and metabolic syndromes. This review aims to give an overview of the use of stem cell therapy in the treatment of pain caused by diabetic neuropathy, osteoarthritis, and other spinal cord pathologies.
Recent Findings: Pain is defined as a generalized or localized feeling of distress related to a physical or emotional stimulus and can be caused by a multitude of pathologies.

Existing lower limb exoskeletons (LLEs) have demonstrated a lack of sufficient patient involvement during rehabilitation training. To address this issue and better incorporate the patient's motion intentions, this paper proposes an online brain-computer interface (BCI) system for LLE based motor imagery and stacked ensemble. The establishment of this online BCI system enables a comprehensive closed-loop control process, which includes the collection and decoding of brain signals, robotic control, and real-time feedback mechanisms.
