12-Spin-Qubit Arrays Fabricated on a 300 mm Semiconductor Manufacturing Line.

Nano Lett

December 2024

Intel Corporation, Technology Research Group, Hillsboro, Oregon 97124, United States.

Intel's efforts to build a practical quantum computer are focused on developing a scalable spin-qubit platform leveraging industrial high-volume semiconductor manufacturing expertise and 300 mm fabrication infrastructure. Here, we provide an overview of the design, fabrication, and demonstration of a new customized quantum test chip, which contains 12-quantum-dot spin-qubit linear arrays, code named Tunnel Falls. These devices are fabricated using immersion and extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV), along with other standard high-volume manufacturing (HVM) processes as well as production-level process control.

Nano-patterned magnetic materials have opened new venues for the investigation of strongly correlated phenomena including artificial spin-ice systems, geometric frustration, and magnetic monopoles, for technologically important applications such as reconfigurable ferromagnetism. With the advent of atomically thin 2D van der Waals (vdW) magnets, a pertinent question is whether such compounds could make their way into this realm where interactions can be tailored so that unconventional states of matter can be assessed. Here, it is shown that square islands of CrGeTe vdW ferromagnets distributed in a grid manifest antiferromagnetic correlations, essential to enable frustration resulting in an artificial spin-ice.

Flat lens-based subwavelength focusing and scanning enabled by Fourier translation.

Nanophotonics

August 2024

College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Jinan University, Guangzhou 510632, China.

We demonstrate a technique for flexibly controlling subwavelength focusing and scanning, by using the Fourier translation property of a topology-preserved flat lens. The Fourier transform property of the flat lens enables converting an initial phase shift of light into a spatial displacement of its focus. The flat lens used in the technique exhibits a numerical aperture of 0.

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) existing in the vortex light beam with isolated singularities and spiral phase distribution presents significant applications in optical communications and light-field manipulation. The generation of OAM based on plasmonic metasurfaces is generally limited by the large optical loss and weak tunability of metal materials. Three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators (TIs) with insulating bulk states and topologically protected surface states allow the excitation of surface plasmons with low loss in the high-frequency region.

2025 Roadmap on 3D Nano-magnetism.

J Phys Condens Matter

November 2024

Institute of Applied Physics, Vienna University of Technology, Wiedner Hauptstr. 8-10/134, Wien, 1040, AUSTRIA.

The transition from planar (2D) to three-dimensional (3D) magnetic nanostructures represents a significant advancement in both fundamental research and practical applications, offering vast potential for next-generation technologies like ultrahigh-density storage, memory, logic, and neuromorphic computing. Despite being a relatively new field, the emergence of 3D nanomagnetism presents numerous opportunities for innovation, prompting the creation of a comprehensive roadmap by leading international researchers. This roadmap aims to facilitate collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue to address challenges in materials science, physics, engineering, and computing.
