Passive stent coatings in the drug-eluting era.

J Invasive Cardiol

Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Published: April 2005

Advances in coronary stent technology, both in terms of stent design and function, have significantly improved the safety and efficacy of percutaneous coronary intervention, including marked reduction in restenosis. This has led to its use in increasingly challenging clinical and lesional subsets, with potential for increased risk of stent-associated thrombosis. In this article we outline the development of passive stent coatings, and evaluate the ongoing role of such coatings in the contemporary era of antiproliferative drug-eluting stents.

Flexible Ureteroscopy Combined with Novel Ultra-Flexible Ureteral Access Sheaths for Treating Allium Stent Encrustation: Initial Experience with 15 Cases.

J Endourol

December 2024

Department of Urology, Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Urinary System Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, China.

Encrustation significantly affects the lifespan of Allium stents. Currently, there is no established treatment for Allium ureteral stent encrustation. This study introduces a method for treating these encrustations using a flexible ureteroscopy (F-URS) combined with a novel ultra-flexible ureteral access sheath (UF-UAS).

A microsystem for in vivo wireless monitoring of plastic biliary stents using magnetoelastic sensors.

Microsyst Nanoeng

October 2024

EECS Department and Center for Wireless Integrated Microsystems and Sensing, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109, USA.

With an interest in monitoring the patency of stents that are used to treat strictures in the bile duct, this paper reports the investigation of a wireless sensing system to interrogate a microsensor integrated into the stent. The microsensor is comprised of a 28-μm-thick magnetoelastic foil with 8.25-mm length and 1-mm width.

Ureteroscopy for stone disease in pediatric patients with neurogenic bladder: A single institution case-control study.

J Pediatr Urol

September 2024

Division of Urology, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA, USA; Division of Urology, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman Center for Advanced Care, 3400 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Electronic address:

Introduction: Ureteroscopy (URS) for urolithiasis in pediatric patients may be particularly challenging for patients with co-morbidities that increase the risk for stone formation and recurrence. Patients with neurogenic bladders (NGB) and/or patients that are non-ambulatory are reported to have higher rates of additional comorbidities and a particularly increased risk of developing urolithiasis, and higher rates of infections and post-operative complications.

Objective: To report outcomes of URS for stone disease in pediatric patients with NGB and/or non-ambulatory status and compare these outcomes to patients without these co-morbidities.

Purpose: To evaluate how risk factors impact success rates of initial probing and nasolacrimal duct (NLD) tube intubation in children over 18 months of age with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO).

Methods: This cohort study included 98 CNLDO patients aged 18 months to 10 years who underwent NLD probing with stent insertion. We employed the multivariate frailty model as our final model to conceptually elaborate on our correlated eye data, with the primary outcome measure evaluating the success rates of probing and tube intubation.
