Background: The aim of our study was to detect Ep-CAM mRNA in peripheral blood (PB) and bone marrow (BM) samples of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, using a novel chromatographic method (molecular strip) for the detection of PCR amplified product and to confirm the results by the standard method of agarose gel electrophoresis.
Patients And Methods: Thirty patients participated in the present study providing 27 PB and 26 BM samples. PB samples were also obtained from 20 healthy volunteers. PCR products were detected using the molecular strip and the results were confirmed by 1.5% agarose gel electrophoresis.
Results: In total 26 out of 27 blood samples (96%) and 19 out of 26 bone marrow samples (73%) were found positive for Ep-CAM expression using both methods, whereas none of the 20 healthy controls was found positive for the above marker.
Conclusion: Ep-CAM mRNA is highly expressive in peripheral blood of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Its prognostic significance should be evaluated in patients with resectable carcinomas. The new strip detection method is highly specific for the PCR product under investigation, reliable, easy to handle, fast and safe for the user.

The occurrence of multiple primary cancers in individual patients underscores the need for diagnostic and therapeutic techniques with augmented cancer-targeting selectivity and broad-spectrum antitumor effects. To address this, we develop a quadruple-input-triggered R-ND-ND logic gated oncological nanosystem (OAA). This system employs four cancer-related markers (EpCAM, MUC1, APE1, and miR-21) to generate three distinct fluorescence signals, enabling precise differentiation of various cancer cell lines (MCF-7, HepG2, and HeLa) from normal cells (MCF-10A).

Cilomilast, a phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) selective inhibitor, has anti-inflammatory effects in vitro and in vivo and reduces COPD exacerbations. We tested the hypothesis that cilomilast inhibits virus-induced airway epithelial intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression and inflammatory cytokine/chemoattractants, IL-6, CXCL8, and CCL5 production in vitro. BEAS-2B bronchial epithelial cells were incubated with 0.

Introduction: Exploring techniques for differentiating and culturing canine hepatocytes serves as a means to establish systems for liver transplantation and drug metabolism testing. However, establishing consistent methods for culturing stable hepatocytes remains a challenge. Recently, several investigations have shown the reprogramming of mature hepatocytes into hepatic progenitor cells by applying specific small molecule compounds, including Y-27632, (a ROCK inhibitor), A-83-01 (a TGFβ inhibitor), and CHIR99021 (a GSK3 inhibitor) (termed YAC) in rat, mouse, and humans, respectively.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) circulating tumor cells (CTCs) exhibit significant phenotypic heterogeneity and diverse gene expression profiles due to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). However, current detection methods lack the capacity for simultaneous quantification of multidimensional biomarkers, impeding a comprehensive understanding of tumor biology and dynamic changes. Here, the CTC Digital Simultaneous Cross-dimensional Output and Unified Tracking (d-SCOUT) technology is introduced, which enables simultaneous quantification and detailed interpretation of HCC transcriptional and phenotypic biomarkers.
