Purpose: To assess the validity of a digital nonmydriatic fundus camera in detecting cataract as a cause of visual impairment.

Design: Diagnostic test comparison.

Methods: Photos of the anterior segment of 72 eyes were taken with a nonmydriatic fundus camera and assessed for cataract by two graders. Dilated biomicroscopy examination of the anterior segment of the same 72 eyes was then performed and cataract graded using the Wilmer scale.

Results: Grader 1 and 2 reported 90% and 94% sensitivity and 82% and 77% specificity, respectively, when the digital photos were compared with slit-lamp biomicroscopy in determining visually significant cataract. In addition, both graders showed similar substantial agreement between the digital photos and slit-lamp biomicroscopy when assessed for cataract (unweighted kappa 0.87 and 0.92, respectively, for graders 1 and 2).

Conclusion: The nonmydriatic fundus camera may be an alternative method for screening for visually significant cataract in the community.

The relationship between retinal fundus hemorrhage and the severity of coronary artery lesions remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the incidence of fundus hemorrhage in patients at high risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and to examine its correlation with the SYNTAX score, a tool used to assess the complexity of coronary artery disease. This retrospective study consecutively enrolled patients undergoing coronary angiography (CAG) at Beijing Anzhen Hospital Hospital from June 2019 to January 2020.

Background: Ozurdex® (Allergan®, AbbVie Company, North Chicago, Illinois, EUA), is composed of 0.7 mg of dexamethasone, fused in a solid biodegradable PLGA polymer, whose degradation occurs naturally in the vitreous cavity, usually in six months after its application.

Methods: In this study, we included patients aged ≥ 18 years with one or two eyes who had an indication for Ozurdex implants.

Background: This study was developed to determine whether a machine learning model could be developed to assess blood pressure with accuracy comparable to arm cuff measurements.

Methods: A deep learning model was developed based on the UK Biobank dataset and was trained to detect both systolic and diastolic pressure. The hypothesis was formulated after data collection and before the development of the model.

The choroid, a critical vascular layer beneath the retina, is essential for maintaining retinal function and monitoring chorioretinal disorders. Existing imaging methods, such as indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT), face significant limitations, including contrast agent requirements, restricted field of view (FOV), and high costs, limiting accessibility. To address these challenges, we developed a nonmydriatic, contrast agent-free fundus camera utilizing transcranial near-infrared (NIR) illumination.

Prcis: Community-based eye health screenings that incorporated fundus photography and optometric exams in a high-risk NYC population effectively identified a higher than average number of participants that required an in-office glaucoma evaluation.

Purpose: To report glaucoma screening rates and risk factors associated with referral for in-office glaucoma evaluation in the Manhattan Vision Screening and Follow-up Study (NYC-SIGHT).

Methods: In this 5-year, cluster-randomized clinical trial, eligible individuals aged 40 and older were recruited from affordable housing developments and senior centers.
