Background: An association between Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) and seropositivity for Bartonella henselae (BH) has been described. The objective of this study was to see if such an association exists in northern Alberta.
Methods: Immunofluorescent antibody testing utilizing an antigen prepared from B. henselae was undertaken on sera from six children with current HSP, 22 children with remote HSP, and 28 controls that were matched for age. Blood from the six children with current HSP was analysed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay with primers derived from the citrate synthase (gltA) gene for the detection of Bartonella DNA.
Results: The seropositivity rate for BH was 61% in cases versus 21% in controls (p < 0.03). The PCR assay was negative in all six current cases.
Conclusion: There is an increased seropositivity rate for BH in children with HSP. However, it is not clear if infection with B. henselae or a related Bartonella species can result in HSP, or if the increased seropositivity is from non-specific or cross-reacting antibodies.

Background: The factors influencing diffuse crescentic glomerulonephritis renal survival and prognosis remain uncertain. Additionally, there's no literature on the clinical outcomes of IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis, and IgA vasculitis nephritis in type II patients.
Methods: This study retrospectively examined 107 patients diagnosed with diffuse crescentic glomerulonephritis through biopsy.

IgA vasculitis (IgAV) generally occurs in young people and presents with a tetrad of symptoms: purpura, abdominal pain, arthralgia, and nephritis. However, it may have an atypical course without the typical tetrad. Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH), heart failure, and stroke are known complications of IgAV but are all very rare.

A 69-year-old Japanese man developed abdominal pain, purpura, proteinuria, and hematuria while receiving treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis. A skin biopsy revealed IgA-positive leukocytoclastic vasculitis, and a renal biopsy showed IgA-positive mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis with crescent formation. Based on these findings, we diagnosed IgA vasculitis with nephritis (IgAVN) and initiated treatment.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the safety profile of the recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) after its marketing in China.
Methods: We present a descriptive analysis and safety signal assessment of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) associated with RZV between September 2020 and December 2023. The descriptive data collected includes demographic characteristics and the classification of characteristics of AEFI cases, while vaccine safety signal assessment was evaluated using the reporting odds ratio (ROR).
