Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) presents significant economic challenges to the global pork industry due to its ability to mutate rapidly. The current commercial vaccines have limited effectiveness, and there are strict restrictions on the use of antiviral chemical drugs. The growth of population and changes in dietary structure have led to a continuous increase in demand for livestock and poultry products, resulting in the increase of the gaseous reactive nitrogen (GNr) emissions from livestock and poultry breeding systems and posing a threat to the human and ecosystem health. The characteristics from GNr emissions of six livestock and poultry breeding systems at the provincial level of China in 2020 were evaluated with the framework of life cycle analysis. Additionally, this study explored the impact of silage maize replacing traditional maize as feed on reducing GNr emissions.

There is currently no consensus on the universal virulence factors or markers that can differentiate pathogenic from non-pathogenic or commensal isolates. The significance of as a foodborne pathogen is increasingly acknowledged, but the assessment of its occurrence and transmission remains challenging due to the lack of validation of selective isolation, detection, and identification methods. The aim of the present study was to examine its presence on various meat samples at the retail level in order to assess a potential foodborne transmission and its occurrence in clinical stool samples. First, the evaluation and selection of a selective enrichment broth and isolation medium, combined with an optimized identification by MALDI-TOF MS, as well as a suitable DNA extraction method and a PCR-based detection strategy were developed.
