The correlation between Fischer's ratio and the risk of cardiac dysfunction in heart failure patients.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

December 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Rui Jin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200025, People's Republic of China.

Backgrounds: Due to the high mortality and hospitalization rate in chronic heart failure (HF), it is of great significance to study myocardial nutrition conditions. Amino acids (AAs) are essential nutrient metabolites for cell development and survival. This study aims to investigate the associations and prognostic value of plasma branched-chain amino acid/aromatic amino acid ratio (Fischer's ratio, FR) in patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 50%.

Background/objectives: Despite advancements in antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV-positive individuals face heightened risks of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal (GI) complications, often linked to persistent systemic inflammation. Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD), prevalent in HIV patients, exacerbates this inflammatory state and may contribute to worsened GI symptoms. This study aims to explore the association between LVDD, systemic inflammation, and gastrointestinal symptoms in HIV-positive patients undergoing ART.

In preeclampsia, there occurs a defective trophoblastic invasion of spiral arteries, which is characterized by abnormal uterine artery wave parameter such as increased pulsatility index (PI) and early diastolic notch. This increased uterine artery PI is a good predictor of hypertensive disorder and small for gestational-age babies. Maternal hypertension and proteinuria resolve in the puerperium.

Collateral vascular arteries from the descending aorta to the pulmonary arteries are uncommon after arterial switch operation. We describe a case of transposition of the great arteries (TGA) with significant aortopulmonary collateral vessels causing management difficulties after an arterial switch operation. Preoperatively, the presence of collaterals exacerbated aortic diastolic runoff and led to myocardial ischemia.

The Relationship Between Blood Pressure and Heart Rate Response During Exercise Testing with Microcirculation Indices.

High Blood Press Cardiovasc Prev

December 2024

First Department of Cardiology, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Hippokration Hospital, Vas. Sofias 114, 11527, Athens, Greece.

Introduction: Hypertension is associated with changes in microcirculation, while increased blood pressure (BP) during exercise stress testing has been correlated with adverse outcomes.

Aim: To evaluate the relationship of microcirculation with exercise BP response in hypertensive individuals.

Methods: 105 hypertensive individuals underwent exercise stress testing and nail-fold videocapillaroscopy assessment, in order to evaluate the relationship of BP response to exercise with capillary density.
