A pressure-induced linkage isomerization of the cyanide anion has been observed in single crystals of a chromium(III)-iron(II) Prussian blue analogue of formula K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 square1.2.16H2O (1). Upon application of pressure in the 0-1200 MPa range, the cyanide ligand rotates and becomes C-bonded to the iron(II) cations, leading to a stabilization of their diamagnetic low-spin states. The result is a decrease of magnetization and magnetic ordering temperatures from TC = 19 K at ambient pressure to 13 K at 1200 MPa. The initial magnetic properties can be restored on pressure release. The reversible movement of cyanide in the solid state can be exploited as a switch of the magnetic interaction at the molecular level.

Pressure Tuning and Sn Particle Size Optimization for Enhanced Performance in PbSnF-Based All-Solid-State Fluoride Ion Batteries.

All-solid-state fluoride ion batteries (ASSFIBs) show remarkable potential as energy storage devices due to their low cost, superior safety, and high energy density. However, the poor ionic conductivity of F conductor, large volume expansion, and the lack of a suitable anode inhibit their development. In this work, PbSnF solid electrolytes in different phases (β- and γ-PbSnF) are successfully synthesized and characterized.

Pressure tuning reverse martensitic transformation in the MnCoNiGe half-Heusler alloy.

J Phys Condens Matter

December 2023

Centro de Ciências de Imperatriz (CCIM), Universidade Federal do Maranhão-UFMA, Maranhão, Brazil.

Here we investigate the structural properties of the MnCoNiGe half-Heusler alloys under pressure up to 12 GPa by Synchrotron angle-dispersive x-ray diffraction (XRD). At room temperature and pressure, the compound exhibits only the hexagonal NiIn-type structure. Lowering the temperature to 100 K at ambient pressure induces an almost complete martensitic phase transformation to the orthorhombic TiNiSi-type structure.

Center for High Pressure Science (CHiPS), State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology, Yanshan University, Qinhuangdao 066004, China.

[CHNH][Co(HCOO)] is the first perovskite-like metal-organic framework exhibiting spin-driven magnetoelectric effects. However, the high-pressure tuning effects on the magnetic properties and crystal structure of [CHNH][Co(HCOO)] have not been studied. In this work, alongside ac magnetic susceptibility measurements, we investigate the magnetic transition temperature evolution under high pressure.

Pressure-controlled magnetism in 2D molecular layers.

Nat Commun

Long-range magnetic ordering of two-dimensional crystals can be sensitive to interlayer coupling, enabling the effective control of interlayer magnetism towards voltage switching, spin filtering and transistor applications. With the discovery of two-dimensional atomically thin magnets, a good platform provides us to manipulate interlayer magnetism for the control of magnetic orders. However, a less-known family of two-dimensional magnets possesses a bottom-up assembled molecular lattice and metal-to-ligand intermolecular contacts, which lead to a combination of large magnetic anisotropy and spin-delocalization.

Chemical Pressure Tuning Magnetism from Pyrochlore to Triangular Lattices.

Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Rutgers University, Piscataway, New Jersey08854, United States.

Geometrically frustrated lattices combined with magnetism usually host quantum fluctuations that suppress magnetic orders and generate highly entangled ground states. Three-dimensionally (3D) frustrated magnets generally exist in the diamond and pyrochlore lattices, while two-dimensionally (2D) frustrated geometries contain Kagomé, triangular, and honeycomb lattices. In this work, we reported using chemical pressure to tune the magnetism of the pyrochlore lattice in LiYbSe into a triangular lattice by doping Ga or In.
