Massive ovarian oedema is an unusual clinical entity occurring in teenage girls. It is a rare tumour-like condition of the ovary characterized by marked enlargement of one or both ovaries due to marked accumulation of oedema fluid in the ovarian stroma. Massive ovarian oedema may result from partial or intermittent torsion of the mesovary, interfering with venous and lymphatic drainage, but not with arterial blood flow. The patients most commonly present with lower abdominal pain and enlargement. This entity can clinically mimic a neoplasia. We report three cases with massive ovarian oedema.

Uterine leiomyoma, also referred to as fibroid or myoma, is a prevalent benign tumor that can present with a range of clinical manifestations. Female mosquitoes require a vertebrate blood meal to activate reproduction, transmitting numerous devastating human diseases. Vitellogenesis is a central event of female reproduction that involves the massive production of vitellogenin (Vg) in the fat body and the maturation of ovaries. This process is controlled by the steroid hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E); however, its molecular regulatory basis remains not completely understood.

The PARP inhibitor olaparib is an anti-cancer agent based on synthetic lethality that targets poly (ADP-ribose) polymerases. It is used as a therapeutic agent for breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers carrying BRCA1/2 mutations that cause deficiency in homologous recombination. In recent years, acquired resistance to PARP inhibitors has become a clinical problem in PARP inhibitor-treated patients.
