Allograft valve replacement is the preferred treatment for infectious endocarditis With severe annular destruction. Explantation of the valve in patients with cerebral death requires preliminary cardiac investigations and strict surgical procedures. The authors report two cases of right atrial endocarditis discovered at the time of explantation of the valvular allografts. In view of the infectious nature of the lesions, no tissues were resected. In both cases, transthoracic echocardiography had not diagnosed these lesions. The sensitivity of transoesophageal echocardiography in the diagnosis of these lesions should lead to systematic referral for this investigation. The infectious nature of these endocarditic lesions should raise suspicion about the presence of a central venous catheter. In addition, careful inspection of the chambers, septa and cardiac valves should be performed at surgery. The detection of potentially infectious endocarditic lesions should, in accordance with present recommendations, lead to renouncing the explantation of valvular allografts.

Background: Despite the increasing popularity of electronic devices, the longitudinal effects of daily prolonged electronic device usage on brain health and the aging process remain unclear.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the daily use of mobile phones/computers on the brain structure and the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.
Methods: We used data from the UK Biobank, a longitudinal population-based cohort study, to analyze the impact of mobile phone use duration, weekly usage time, and playing computer games on the future brain structure and the future risk of various neurodegenerative diseases, including all-cause dementia (ACD), Alzheimer disease (AD), vascular dementia (VD), all-cause parkinsonism (ACP), and Parkinson disease (PD).

Cerebral ischemic stroke, neuronal death, and inflammation bring difficulties in neuroprotection and rehabilitation. In this study, we developed and designed the ability of natural lactoferrin-polyethylene glycol-polyphenylalanine-baicalein nanomicelles (LF-PEG-PPhe-Bai) to target and reduce these pathological processes, such as neurological damage and cognitive impairment in the stages of poststroke. Nanomicelles made from biocompatible materials have improved bioavailability and targeted distribution to afflicted brain areas.

Objective: To investigate the incidence of early/unplanned (E/U) separations following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and assess whether sex impacts the hazard of separation.
Setting: Military Health System (MHS).
Participants: Active duty service members (N = 75,730) with an initial mTBI diagnosis in military records between January 2011 and January 2018.

Background: The persistently low number of postmortem organ donations in Germany has repeatedly led to political discussions and most recently to the amendment of the Transplantation Act with the strengthening of the role of the transplantation officer and the introduction of a register to document the will to donate. The background to these decisions was the assumption that a relevant proportion of potential organ donors in hospitals were being overlooked and not reported. However, due to the lack of guidelines as to when a potential organ donor must be reported to the DSO ("Deutsche Stiftung Organspende"), the existing data is only of limited validity.

Background And Aims: The association between periprocedural change in tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and outcomes in patients undergoing mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) is unclear. This study aimed to examine the prognostic value of TR before and after M-TEER.
Methods: Patients in the OCEAN-Mitral registry were divided into four groups according to baseline and post-procedure echocardiographic assessments: no TR/no TR (no TR), no TR/significant TR (new-onset TR), significant TR/no TR (normalized TR), and significant TR/significant TR (residual TR) (all represents before/after M-TEER).
