Reactions between conjugated dienols and maleic anhydride provide either cis-fused or trans-fused bicyclic products as major products, depending upon how the reaction is carried out. Simply mixing the two reactants together generally leads to cis-fused lactone acids in thermal reactions which proceed viaintermolecular Diels-Alder reaction followed by intramolecular esterification. Pre-forming the maleate half ester derivative followed by heating affords predominantly trans-fused lactone acids in good yields by way of an intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) reaction. Sorbyl citraconate half esters undergo a rapid thermolytic fragmentation in refluxing toluene to form the dienol and citraconic anhydride. The resulting diene-dienophile pair undergo an intermolecular cycloaddition followed by a rapid intramolecular esterification to give cis-fused bicyclic lactone acids as major products. The IMDA reaction of citraconic half esters is sufficiently rapid in DMSO to dominate over fragmentation: the exo-cycloadduct is formed almost exclusively. Nine literature reports of endo-selective IMDA reactions of triene acids are erroneous; the cycloadditions proceed in an intermolecular manner.

The recently developed phenoplast-related polymer, poly(benzofuran--arylacetic acid), presents a versatile molecular structure containing lactone and carboxylic acid functionalities that offer significant flexibility in creating cured materials with tailored properties for diverse applications, wherein also the thermal conductivity is an important factor. This study analyses the possibility of forming amide moieties of poly(benzofuran--arylacetic acid) with diamines resulting in cross-linked products in order to control its thermal properties. The cross-linking process is achieved by utilizing three distinct diamines, 1,6-diaminohexane, -xylylenediamine, and 4,7,10-trioxa-1,13-tridecanediamine, each possessing different degrees of polarity, flexibility, and reactivity.

(Aristolochiaceae), commonly known as the Brazilian Dutchman's pipe, is cultivated globally as an ornamental vine, admired for the unique shape of its large flowers. In our ongoing research into the chemical composition of , the ethanol extract from its seeds was fractionated using chromatographic techniques, resulting in the isolation and identification of allantoin, along with the lignans kobusin, eudesmin, and methylarctigenin. The fractions were further analysed by NMR and GC - EI/MS, employing a molecular networking approach and retention index comparison, which led to the annotation of four sterols, eleven aliphatic alcohols, one saturated fatty acid, two unsaturated fatty acids, ten esters of saturated fatty acids, ten esters of unsaturated fatty acids, and one lactone.
