The protection effect of verbascoside (Ver) against Fenton reaction on plasmid pBR322 DNA was studied using agarose gel electrophoresis and UV-visible spectroscopy. The pBR322 plasmid DNA is damaged by hydroxyl radical (OH*) generated from the Fenton reaction with H2O2 and Fe(II) or Fe(III). This DNA damage is characterized by the diminution of supercoiled DNA forms or by the increase of relaxed or linear DNA forms after oxidative attack. The UV spectrum study showed that verbascoside can form complexes with Fe(II) or Fe(III), and the complexation can be reversed by the addition of EDTA. The formation constants of verbascoside-Fe complexes were estimated as 10(21.03) and 10(31.94) M(-2) for Fe(II) and Fe(III) respectively. The inhibition of Fenton reaction by verbascoside could be partially explained by the sequestration of Fe ions.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has garnered significant attention in the field of tumor therapy due to its ability to convert overexpressed hydrogen peroxide (HO) in tumors into highly toxic hydroxyl radicals (•OH) through metal ion-mediated catalysis. However, the effectiveness of CDT is hindered by low catalyst efficiency, insufficient intra-tumor HO level, and excessive glutathione (GSH). In this study, a pH/GSH dual responsive bimetallic nanocatalytic system (CuFeMOF@GOx@Mem) is developed by modifying red blood cell membranes onto glucose oxidase (GOx)-loaded Fe-Cu bimetallic MOFs, enhancing the efficacy of CDT through a triple-enhanced way by HO self-supply, catalysts self-cycling, and GSH self-elimination.

In this study, the antioxidant and prooxidant potency of protocatechuic aldehyde (PCA) was evaluated using density functional theory (DFT). Cancer occurrence rates exhibit diverse age-related patterns, and understanding them may shed new and important light on the drivers of cancer evolution. This study systematically analyzes the age-dependent occurrence rates of 23 carcinoma types, focusing on their age-dependent distribution patterns, the determinants of peak occurrence ages, and the significant difference between the two genders. According to the SEER reports, these cancer types have two types of age-dependent occurrence rate (ADOR) distributions, with most having a unimodal distribution and a few having a bimodal distribution.

The development of efficient and sustainable photocatalysts for wastewater treatment remains a critical challenge in environmental remediation. In this study, a ternary photocatalyst, Cu-CuO/g-CN, was synthesized by embedding copper-copper oxide heterostructural nanocrystals onto g-CN nanosheets via a simple deposition method. Structural and optical characterization confirmed the successful formation of the heterostructure, which combines the narrow bandgap of CuO, the high stability of g-CN, and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Cu nanoparticles.
