The purpose of the study was to investigate, in the Vero cell culture, the antiviral activity of vegetable tritrpens derivatives and ribavirin analogues against the viruses of measles, herpes simple (type 1), cytomegaloviruses and filoviruses. The toxicity and antiviral activity of compounds were determined after coloring of cells with crystal violate. Additionally, the combined action of triterpens' derivatives and ribavirin was investigated. The studied compounds showed relatively low antiviral activity, nonetheless, further research of vegetable triterpens and their derivatives as well as ribavirin analogues would be promising.

Background: Among people with abdominal obesity, women are more likely to develop diabetes than men. Mobile health (mHealth)-based technologies provide the flexibility and resource-saving opportunities to improve lifestyles in an individualized way. However, mHealth-based diabetes prevention programs tailored for busy mothers with abdominal obesity have not been reported yet.

Agricultural growers worldwide face significant challenges in promoting plant growth. This research introduces a green strategy utilizing nanomaterials to enhance crop production. While high concentrations of nanomaterials are known to be hazardous to plants, this study demonstrates that low doses of biologically synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) can serve as an effective regulatory tool to boost plant growth.

In spite of significant advancements in diagnosis and treatment, cancer remains one of the major threats to human health due to its ability to cause disease with high morbidity and mortality. A multifactorial and multitargeted approach is required towards intervention of the multitude of signaling pathways associated with carcinogenesis inclusive of angiogenesis and metastasis. In this context, plants provide an immense source of phytotherapeutics that show great promise as anticancer drugs.

Iron/phosphorus co-doped carbon nanozyme for colorimetric sensing of organophosphorus pesticides in food.

Anal Methods

January 2025

Chongqing Key Laboratory of New Energy Storage Materials and Devices, School of Science, Chongqing University of Technology, Chongqing 400054, P. R. China.

In this work, a peroxidase-like (POD-like) nanozyme of Fe/P-NC was synthesized by doping phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) to manipulate iron (Fe) activity centers, which showed catalytic activity and kinetics comparable to those of natural HRP. Based on the efficient POD-like activity of the Fe/P-NC nanozyme and cascaded catalytic reactions with acetylcholinesterase (AChE), we constructed a colorimetric, affordable and sensitive sensing platform to detect organophosphorus pesticides (OPs). In the presence of AChE, the POD-like activity of the prepared Fe/P-NC was suppressed, which weakened the Fe/P-NC-catalyzed oxidation of TMB.

Elucidating the degradation mechanism of beef myofibrillar proteins under hydroxyl radical oxidation through the lens of cysteine oxidation modifications.

Food Chem X

January 2025

Hubei Key Laboratory of Edible Wild Plants Conservation & Utilization, College of Life Sciences, Hubei Normal University, Huangshi 435002, China.

The study aimed to assess the oxidative modification behavior of bovine myofibrillar proteins (MPs) cysteines (Cys) by hydroxyl radical (·OH) through the construction of an in vitr Fenton reaction system. The ·OH generated by the Fenton reaction induced large-scale oxidative modification of Cys, and redox proteomics identified a total of 1192 differential oxidation sites (Dos), 59 Dos were located in the MPs structure. The Cys of actin (17 Dos), myosin/myomesin (16 Dos), tenascin (12 Dos) and sarcomere (10 Dos) in the MPs structure showed active oxidative modification behavior towards ·OH, especially with the "-C-X-X-X-X-W-" structure amino acid sequence showed high sensitivity.
