Published: March 2005

A carbon supported Pt-Ru catalyst with uniform distribution and small average size of the Pt-Ru particles was synthesized using a two-step spray pyrolysis (SP) method; the electrocatalytic activity of the prepared catalyst for methanol oxidation is better than that of the standard commercial catalyst.

Spray cooling, of which the essence is droplet impacting, is an efficient thermal management technique for dense electronic components in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Nanofluids are pointed as promising cooling dispersions. Since the nanofluids are unstable, a dispersant could be added to the fluid.

Titania (TiO) is one of promising photo catalysts for its high ability to resistant photo corrosion and environmental friendliness, but its photocatalytic activity is too low to be used in industry. To find an approach to solve this problem, graphene oxide (GO), tungsten trioxide (WO) and TiO composite with hollow mesoporous structure was prepared by a two-step spray drying method. The composite was used as raw material to constitute a membrane onto ITO glass to form a membrane photo-anode.

Surfactants are amphiphilic molecules that adsorb to interfaces and affect the interfacial tension. Surfactants in seawater can impact gas-exchange, surface properties, and the composition and fate of sea spray aerosol. The accurate quantification of surfactants and their classes is crucial to constraining the effect of surfactants in seawater and their role in air-sea exchanges.

Hoof Health Associates (Praxisgemeinschaft für Klauengesundheit) Dres. med. vet. Fiedler, Grimm & Kröger, 80999 Munich, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the effectiveness of a new hoof care product containing iron, zinc, and aluminum salts for reducing Digital Dermatitis (DD) in dairy cows, compared to traditional treatments like formalin and copper sulfate, which have questionable efficacy and may cause irritation and environmental harm.
  • - Over a year-long clinical trial involving 132 cows, the treatment group received bi-weekly applications of the product on one hind foot, while the control group only had the other hind foot washed, with monthly assessments of DD severity.
  • - Results indicated the treatment group had significantly less disease severity, with the control group showing a 4 times higher likelihood of having lesions and a nearly 6 times higher chance of active lesions compared to the treatment group.
