An ICP-AES method for the determination of active components Mo and Bi in catalyst for acrylonitrile production was established and reported in this paper. 0.2 g of the sample was dissolved with 5 mL of aqua regia and 8 mL of HF at 75 degrees C on a water bath and evaporated till dry to expel SiF4. The residue was dissolved and made volume with 3% HCL up to 100 mL. The solution was prepared for Bi determnination. Successively diluted with 3% HCL for 10 times the solution was used for Mo determination. Spectral interferences were investigated in detail by means of profiling the analytical lines with wavelength scanning of the blank and coexisting elements in the vicinity of the lines. Three Mo lines, MoII 202.030, MoII 203.844 and MoII 204.598, and two Bi lines, BiII 190.241 and BiI 223.061 were selected as the analytical lines considered free of spectral interferences. Utilizing multiple lines in a full spectrum for simultaneous determination of one element is of benefit to the improvement of accuracy and precision of the analysis. The method has been successfully used for monitoring the activity of the catalyst in acrylonitrile production.

Development of high-performance and inexpensive electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at neutral pH is important for direct seawater splitting and organic electrosynthesis but remains challenging due to the sluggish OER kinetics and diverse side reactions inherent to the constituents of working electrolytes. Herein, we report on a P:NiFe electrode, containing P-doped NiFe alloy, as an excellent electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and OER pre-catalyst for efficient OER in both seawater and organic electrolyte for adiponitrile (ADN) electrosynthesis at neutral pH. Fe and P species modulate the coordination environment of nickel sites, which enables the simultaneous formation of OER-active nickel species and FePO passivation layer, thus transforming HER-active P:NiFe to OER-active a-P:NiFe.

This study investigates the potential of fused deposition modeling (FDM) three-dimensional (3D) printing techniques for manufacturing catalytic static mixers during biodiesel synthesis. The printed catalytic mixing elements comprises acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic with 15 wt% calcium oxide (CaO) as a solid catalyst. When the reactants flowed through the CaO/ABS mixing device, the blending and acceleration processes were both significantly impacted.

Department of Mechanical, Production and Energy Engineering, Moi University, P.O. Box 3900 -30100, Eldoret, Kenya.

This study investigated the pyrolysis of automotive plastic wastes (APW) for the production of diesel-grade oil products using a modified calcium bentonite clay catalyst. The research aimed to optimize the process for maximum oil yield and diesel range organics yield. The APW was characterized by its chemical composition and physical properties and the optimal temperature and catalyst amount were determined for maximum oil yield and diesel range hydrocarbons.

Polyalkenamers as Drop-In Additives for Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization: A Promising Upcycling Paradigm.

Chemical Sciences Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37831, United States.

We report a distinct strategy to upcycle waste polyalkenamers such as polybutadiene into new, performance-advantaged materials by using them as drop-in additives for ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). The polyalkenamers serve as competent chain-transfer agents in ROMPs of common classes of cyclic olefin monomers, facilitating good molecular weight control, allowing low Ru catalyst loadings, and enabling efficient incorporation of the polyalkenamer into the synthesized polymeric material. We successfully demonstrate ROMP using model polyalkenamers and translate these learnings to leverage commercial polybutadiene and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene () as chain transfer agents for ROMP copolymerizations.
