Article Abstract

Carney complex (CNC) is a familial multiple neoplasia syndrome associated with abnormal skin and mucosal pigmentation, primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease (PPNAD), cardiac and cutaneous myxomas, GH and PRL pituitary adenoma, testicular tumors, thyroid adenoma or carcinoma and ovarian cysts. CNC is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait and has some clinical similarities to McCune-Albright syndrome. Recently, genes related to stimulation of the cAMP signaling pathway have been considered candidates for causing CNC. We report a 17-yr-old man with PPNAD, lentigines on the face and severe osteoporosis. In this article we aim at describing the clinical aspects and molecular genetics of CNC and also summarizing diagnostic criteria for CNC and recommendations for follow-up.

BSA/PEI/GOD modified cellulose nanocrystals for construction of hydrogel-based flexible glucose sensors for sweat detection.

J Mater Chem B

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Ludong University, Key Laboratory of High Performance and Functional Polymer in the Universities of Shandong Province, Collaborative Innovation Center of Shandong Province for High Performance Fibers and Their Composites, Yantai 264025, China.

With the miniaturization, integration and intelligence of sweat electrochemical sensor technology, hydrogel flexible sensors have demonstrated immense potential in the field of real-time and non-invasive personal health monitoring. However, it remains a challenge to integrate excellent mechanical properties, self-healing properties, and electrochemical sensing capabilities into the preparation of hydrogel-based flexible sensors. The utilization of CBPG (cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs)@bovine serum albumin (BSA)@polyethyleneimine (PEI) glucose oxidase (GOD) nanomaterial) as both an enhancing phase and sensor probe within a hydrogel matrix, with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) serving as the primary network constituent, has been proposed as a non-invasive technique for monitoring trace glucose levels in sweat.

Durable PVA-based hydrogel sponge with cellulose whiskers embedded in the 3D interconnected channels for efficient oil/water separation.

Carbohydr Polym

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, North University of China, NO. 3 Xueyuan Road, Jiancaoping District, Taiyuan 030051, China. Electronic address:

Superhydrophilic hydrogel was typically used as the membrane coating on various substrates for oil/water separation. Nevertheless, these coatings may suffer from such limitations as poor adhesion strength and abrasion-resistance. Thus, the facile construction of hydrogel sponge with 3D connecting channels would be an ideal choice.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are powerful biosourced nanomaterials for the construction of chiral photonic films. While various techniques have been used to enrich the optical properties of such systems, surface roughness engineering has yet to be exploited to significantly modify their optical properties. In this work, by using vacuum filtration-assisted self-assembly, CNCs are densely packed into films with high optical transparency.

Pickering emulsion template has aroused attention in the fabrication of porous composite materials. In this work, six nanoparticles including cellulose nanofiber/nanocrystal (CNF/CNC), chitin nanofiber/nanocrystals (ChNF/ChNC) and waxy/normal corn nanocrystal (WSNC/CSNC) were comparatively studied for their performance in fabricating porous composites with PDMS via Pickering emulsion templates. Among all, CNF and ChNF exhibited best emulsion stabilizing ability, while ChNF and ChNC at optimized concentrations enabled the formation of high internal phase emulsions with long-term stability of over 300 days.

Konjac glucomannan-based foams incorporating cellulose phase change microcapsules for efficient thermal energy regulation.

Carbohydr Polym

March 2025

Hubei Key Laboratory of Industry Microbiology, National "111" Center for Cellular Regulation and Molecular Pharmaceutics, Hubei University of Technology, Wuhan 430068, China; Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham, Nottingham NG7 2RD, UK. Electronic address:

Biomass foam with porous structure has broad application prospects in thermal energy management. However, traditional foams can only passively insulate heat, unable to effectively store thermal energy and prolong the insulation time. In this work, microcapsules rich in paraffin were prepared using the Pickering emulsion template method with phosphorylated cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) as an emulsifier.
