We describe MR imaging findings applying gradient echo (GRE) T2*-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MR images at 3T to three patients with hyperacute subarachnoid and intraventricular hemorrhage from ruptured aneurysms. Hyperacute subarachnoid and intraventricular hemorrhages (SAH and IVH) were more clearly visualized as an area of decreased signal intensity on GRE T2*-weighted sequences than on FLAIR sequences in all three patients. These preliminary results suggest that acute SAH and IVH with GRE T2*-weighted imaging can be reliably diagnosed at 3T.

The benefits of hypothermia for the treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) remain controversial. In 1999, we initiated brain hypothermia treatment (BHT) in the hyperacute phase to mitigate the evolution of early brain injury in patients with World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) grade V SAH. In June 2014, we introduced endovascular cooling to maintain normothermia for seven days following the initial BHT period.

Background: Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating type of stroke, and most favorable treatments to improve patients' neurologic outcomes are not clear. Invasive intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is a common treatment of ICH, but whether patients with ICH could benefit from ICP monitoring is controversial. ICP variability (IPV) has been shown to correlate with poor outcomes in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury, but this association has not been clearly elucidated in patients with ICH.

Background: Apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase-recruitment domain (ASC) is a promising stroke biomarker. However, a large study of human serum ASC has not yet to be reported; additionally, the diagnostic value of prehospital concentration and practicality of ASC remains unknown.
Methods: We recruited 774 Chinese stroke patients, including 523 with ischemic stroke (IS) and 251 with hemorrhagic stroke (HS) within 14 days following symptom onset in the emergency department, alongside 481 healthy individuals and 64 cognitive impairment patients as controls.
