[reaction: see text] The synthesis of new 18-membered hexaazamacrocycles containing a functionalized 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine moiety as part of the cyclic backbone and three acetate pendant arms is described. The reported synthetic procedure is based on the use of an efficient metal template ion effect which controls the macrocyclization step. This procedure is compatible with some functional groups present in the macrocyclic structure. The photophysical properties of the Eu(III) complexes derived from these ligands were examined in aqueous solutions. Their luminescence lifetimes (tau approximately 1 ms) and quantum yields (13% < Phi < 18%) on one hand, their high kinetic inertness on the other hand, and the presence of additional functionality allowing their covalent conjugation to biomolecules seriously nominate these complexes as very promising candidates for luminescent labeling of biological materials.

Key Laboratory of Functional Molecular Engineering of Guangdong Province, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China.

Pd-catalyzed C4-selective alkynylation of indoles was established by employing glycine as a transient directing group. This reaction exhibits high regioselectivity with the tolerance of a wide scope of functional groups to afford diverse alkynylated indoles in moderate to good yields. Moreover, the readily accessible scale-up synthesis and further decorations to achieve multifunctionalized indoles demonstrate the synthetic potential of this protocol.

: Direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) have significantly reduced Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) transmission and improved health outcomes since their FDA approval in 2011. Despite these advances, over 70 million people remain untreated globally, with a disproportionately high burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). : Through a structured search of open access informational sources and an informal peer-reviewed literature review, HCV treatment barriers were identified, compiled, and analyzed.
