Tacrolimus and mycophenolate are important immunosuppressive agents used to prevent organ rejection in post-transplant patients. While highly effective, their use is associated with significant toxicity, requiring careful management. Tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor, is linked to nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, metabolic disturbances such as diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular complications such as hypertension and arrhythmias.

Cisplatin is a common platinum-based chemotherapeutic that induces acute kidney injury (AKI) in about 30% of patients. Pharmacokinetic/toxicodynamic (PKTD) models of cisplatin-induced AKI have been used to understand risk factors and evaluate potential mitigation strategies. While both traditional clinical biomarkers of kidney function [e.

Background: Treatment of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) infections in low-resource settings is challenging particularly due to limited treatment options. Colistin is the mainstay drug for treatment; however, nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity make this drug less desirable. Thus, mortality may be higher among patients treated with alternative antimicrobials that are potentially less efficacious than colistin.

Purpose Of Review: Cancer therapies continue to evolve at a rapid pace and although novel treatments, including immunotherapies and targeted therapies have allowed for substantial improvements in cancer survival, they carry associated risks of acute kidney injury (AKI). We aim to summarize the existing literature on AKI associated with the spectrum of systemic cancer treatments, including conventional chemotherapies, newer immunotherapies, and the growing number of targeted cancer therapies, which may be associated with both AKI and 'pseudo-AKI'.
Recent Findings: Conventional cytotoxic chemotherapies (e.

Background: In the era of precision medicine, determining reliable renal function assessment remains a critical and debatable issue, especially in nephrology and oncology.
Summary: This paper delves into the significance of accurately measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) in clinical practice, highlighting its essential role in guiding medical decisions and managing kidney health, particularly in the context of renal cancer (RC) patients undergoing nephrotoxic anti-cancer drugs. The limitations and advantages of traditional glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation methods, primarily using serum biomarkers like creatinine and cystatin C, are discussed, emphasizing their possible inadequacy in cancer patients.
