The hyperactivity of the brain renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has been implicated in the development and maintenance of hypertension in several types of experimental and genetic hypertension animal models. Among the main bioactive peptides of the brain RAS, angiotensin (Ang) II and Ang III display the same affinity for type 1 and type 2 Ang II receptors. Both peptides, injected intracerebroventricularly, similarly increase blood pressure (BP); however, because Ang II is converted in vivo to Ang III, the identity of the true effector is unknown. In this article, we review new insights into the predominant role of brain Ang III in the control of BP, underlining the fact that brain aminopeptidase A (APA), the enzyme-forming central Ang III, could constitute a putative central therapeutic target for the treatment of hypertension. This justifies the development of potent systemically active APA inhibitors, such as RB150, as prototypes of a new class of antihypertensive agents for the treatment of certain forms of hypertension.

Arterial hypertension has a high prevalence in the population and is considered both a cardiovascular disease and an important risk factor for the development of other cardiovascular diseases. Tea consumption shows antihypertensive effects due to its composition in terms of bioactive substances such as flavan-3-ols and xanthines. The aim of this study was to assess the possible beneficial effects of two tea extracts, one of white tea (ADM White Tea; WTE) and another one composed of a mixture of black tea and green tea (ADM Tea Complex; CTE), on the cardiovascular alterations induced by angiotensin II (AngII) infusion in mice.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized as a neurodegenerative disorder that is caused by plaque formation by accumulating β-amyloid (Aβ), leading to neurocognitive function and impaired mental development. Thus, targeting Aβ represents a promising target for the development of therapeutics in AD management. Protective ventilation reduces ventilator-induced acute lung injury postoperatively; however, the optimal strategy for one-lung ventilation (OLV) remains unclear. This study compared three protective ventilation strategies with a postoperative partial pressure of oxygen (PaO)/fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO) ratio to reduce the incidence of immediate postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in patients undergoing lung resection surgery. Eighty-seven patients with ASA physical status I-III requiring OLV for lung resection surgery were randomized into three groups according to the applied ventilation strategies: low tidal volume (V) of 4 mL/kg of predicted body weight (PBW) (LV group), medium V of 6 mL/kg of PBW (MV group), and high V of 8 mL/kg of PBW (HV group).
