Pulsed column experiments using Co, fulvic acid and porous sediment packing, along with up/down-flooding experiments using Eu, humic acid and intact sandstone blocks have been performed. The elution of metal and humic and their distribution along the sandstone columns have been measured. A mixed equilibrium and kinetic coupled chemical transport model has been used to simulate the results. In both cases, one exchangeable and one non-exchangeable component have been used to simulate the interaction of metal and humic substance. For the pulsed experiments, a simple equilibrium approach was used to model humic sorption, while a two component, kinetic model was required for the sandstone columns.

The kitchen waste and garden waste (KW-GW) co-composting system provides an effective method for recycling these two types of municipal solid waste; however, further improvements are needed to enhance bioconversion performance. This study investigates a novel composting additive, calcium polypeptides (CPPs), derived from waste animal and plant proteins, which can enhance the bioconversion capacity of biomass in the KW-GW co-composting system. As a pH regulator and an available nitrogen source, CPPs significantly increase the compost matrix pH, prolong the thermophilic phase, and reduce emissions of exhaust gases such as CH, NO, NH, and HS by 52.

In this study, we conducted a pot experiment with alfalfa to investigate the effects of FA and HA amendments on the mobility of molybdenum (Mo) in the soil, its uptake by alfalfa plants, and subsequent changes in the microbial community. The results demonstrated that both FA and HA influence Mo accumulation in the soil and plants.

A natural water sampled after a sand filtration step and spiked with four organic micropollutants (metolachlor ESA, metolachlor NOA, desethylatrazine and metaldehyde) was treated by a loose nanofiltration membrane. The Steric, Electric, and Dielectric model (SEDE model) was then used to predict the separation performance of the membrane towards the various ions and micropollutants in the water matrix in order to study the transport mechanism of ions and micropollutants through the membrane. The SEDE model was found to satisfactorily predict the rejection sequences of inorganic anions and cations, as well as neutral (desethylatrazine and metaldehyde) and charged (metolachlor ESA and metolachlor NOA) micropollutants.

This study reviewed the recovery of humic substances (HS) from anaerobic digestate of sludge as a potential fertilizer, focusing on the quantification of HS, the efficiency of HS recovery, and its interaction with pollutants. The potential pitfalls of current misunderstanding for HS quantification in sludge were pointed out. HS present in sludge showed potential to be used as a fertilizer, which solubilized insoluble phosphates for enhanced soil fertility.
