Dilatometric and X-ray scattering experiments of the crystallization kinetics of a sample of poly(ethylene-co-octene) show pronounced melt memory effects, i.e., the shapes of isotherms and characteristic times vary systematically with the temperature of the melt prior to cooling to the crystallization temperature. The temperature range of the effect is limited; crystallization kinetics remains constant below a melt temperature T(m)l and above a melt temperature T(m)h and varies only in-between. Analysis shows that the melt memory effect is caused by a variation of the characteristic time of a first order crystallization process. The process can be assigned to the in-filling of crystallites into objects of a previously generated precursor structure.

However, they are prone to freeze at low temperatures due to the existence of mass water molecules, which can damage their flexibility and transparency, greatly limiting their use in cold environments. In the work presented here, we explore the upcycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that was derived from water bottles. The material was granulated and extruded into a filament compatible with fused filament fabrication (FFF) additive manufacturing platforms. Three iterations of PET combined with a thermoplastic elastomer, styrene ethylene butylene styrene with a maleic anhydride graft (SEBS-g-MA), were made with 5, 10, and 20% by mass elastomer content.

Background/objectives: Rodents provide a useful translational model of fear- and anxiety-related behaviors. Previously stressed animals exhibit physiological and behavioral stress responses that parallel those observed in anxious humans. Patients diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) present with a spectrum of debilitating anxiety symptoms that result from exposure to one or more traumatic events, with individuals exposed to early adverse experiences and women having increased vulnerability for diagnoses; however, the mechanisms of this increased vulnerability remain unknown.
