Objective: To examine the seizure prediction and detection abilities of the accumulated energy on multi-center data submitted to the First International Collaborative Workshop on Seizure Prediction.
Methods: The accumulated energy (AE), windowed average power, and FHS seizure detection algorithm were applied to a single channel of ECoG data taken from the data sets contributed to the workshop. The FHS seizure detection algorithm was used to perform automated scoring of the data in order to locate subclinical events not picked up by the centers where the data was collected. The results were analyzed retrospectively, comparing the behavior of the accumulated energy and windowed average power on segments containing seizures to interictal segments.
Results: Accumulated energy curves showed no divergence from interictal curves prior to seizure. Distinctive or clear increases in the AE slope occurred sometime at or after electrographic seizure onset for some seizures. Similarly, the windowed average power showed no consistent increases in broadband energy prior to seizures. However, both methods may have detection ability for some seizures.
Conclusions: The accumulated energy did not appear to have predictive abilities for these data sets. Some detection ability was apparent.
Significance: In data unsorted by sleep/wake state, no seizure prediction was evident. The lack of prediction calls into question the existence of a preictal state as previously claimed in the literature using this method.

The rapid advancements in 3C electronic devices necessitate an increase in the charge cutoff voltage of LiCoO to unlock a higher energy density that surpasses the currently available levels. However, the structural devastation and electrochemical decay of LiCoO are significantly exacerbated, particularly at ≥4.5 V, due to the stress concentration caused by more severe lattice expansion and shrinkage, coupled with heterogeneous Li intercalation/deintercalation reactions.

Microbial metabolism is impressively flexible, enabling growth even when available nutrients differ greatly from biomass in redox state. , for example, rearranges its physiology to grow on reduced and oxidized carbon sources through several forms of fermentation and respiration. To understand the limits on and evolutionary consequences of this metabolic flexibility, we developed a coarse-grained mathematical framework coupling redox chemistry with principles of cellular resource allocation.

Mitochondrial endonuclease G (EndoG) contributes to chromosomal degradation when it is released from mitochondria during apoptosis. It is presumed to also have a mitochondrial function because EndoG deficiency causes mitochondrial dysfunction. However, the mechanism by which EndoG regulates mitochondrial function is not known.

Rett syndrome (RS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder primarily caused by mutations in the X-linked methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MECP2) gene, responsible for encoding MECP2 which plays a pivotal role in regulating gene expression. The neurological and non-neurological manifestations of RS vary widely in severity depending on the specific mutation type. Bone complications, mostly scoliosis but also osteoporosis, hip displacement, and a high rate of fractures, are among the most prevalent non-neurological comorbidities observed in girls with RS.

Background: Brain accumulation of amyloid-ß (Aß) in plaques and neurons is the cause of AD neuropathology that is opposed by autologous monocyte/macrophages (MMs) in health but this defense fails in AD.
Method: RNAseq, immunochemistry of the brain, immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy of macrophages.
Result: In the AD brain, MMs shuttle Aß from parenchyma to vessels, which develop vasculitis, causing amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIAs).
