To investigate the effects of metallothionein (MT)-1/2 gene knockout on the taste preference and the conditioned taste aversion (CTA), we performed an experiment comparing the behavior of wild type (WT) mice and MT-1/2 null (KO) mice. The taste preference ratio of saccharin solutions (0.1 or 0.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the incidence, types and predictors of Potentially Harmful Excipients (PHE) exposure among hospitalized neonates.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted from March to April 2022 in neonatal wards at a state hospital in Malaysia. The PHEs of interest were aspartame, benzalkonium chloride, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid or benzoates, ethanol, parabens, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, saccharin sodium, sorbitol and sulfites.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study focused on creating a high-protein, gluten-free laver chip using air-frying and flavor-enhancing technologies through a method called response surface methodology (RSM).
  • - The ideal chip ingredients included dried laver, hair tail surimi, and rice flour, along with additional components like soybean oil and corn syrup, and the optimal cooking process was determined.
  • - Results showed the laver chip had notable properties: a brittleness value of 6.93 N, a puffing ratio of 116.19%, and high protein content at 24.26 g%, while maintaining low calories at 371.56 kcal.

A first-order association can be formed between toxin-induced nausea and a context, as well as nausea and a taste cue. However, comparatively little is understood about second-order associations. The present study examined if the bacterial endotoxin, LPS, could impair the first- and second-order conditioning of context aversion (anticipatory nausea paradigm) and subsequent conditioned taste avoidance (two-bottle task).

Simultaneous analysis of natural and artificial sweeteners in sugar-free drinks and urine samples by column-switching UHPLC-charged aerosol detection method.

J Chromatogr A

January 2024

Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines of the Changbai Mountain, Ministry of Education, Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, College of Pharmacy Yanbian University, Yanji 133002, Jilin Province, China. Electronic address:

Sweeteners are considered an alternative to high-calorie foods or drinks and have been widely used globally. However, the simultaneous separation and detection of high-polarity natural and artificial sweeteners are challenging owing to their broad-spectrum physical and chemical properties. Herein, we developed a column-switching UHPLCCAD method and used it for detecting and quantitating 12 sweeteners, including natural sweeteners (erythritol, mannitol, xylitol, sorbitol and stevioside) and artificial sweeteners (acesulfame potassium, saccharin sodium salt, sodium cyclamate, sucralose, aspartame, alitame and neotame).
