In the present study, plasma lipid concentrations were determined at different times after admission in sera from G6PD-deficient children during haemolytic crisis induced by fava bean ingestion. Reductions in total, LDL and HDL cholesterol were found in association with the maximum of bone marrow hyperplasia. A return towards normal values occurred with regression of the disease. No changes in other lipid parameters were observed. These data suggest that alterations of lipoprotein pattern, other than in experimental animals, are also present in humans with non-malignant proliferative processes. These changes appear to be a consequence of the disease, probably due to an increased utilization of cholesterol by proliferating cells.

Background: Observational studies indicate that serum urate level is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, whether this association is causal remains controversial, due to confounding factors and reverse causality. We aim to evaluate the causal relationship of genetically predicted serum urate level with AF.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease linked to epigenetic changes, particularly DNA methylation. While LDLRAD4 has been implicated in RA through GWAS, its role in RA via methylation remains unclear.
Objectives: To investigate LDLRAD4 methylation patterns in RA and evaluate its potential as a diagnostic and inflammatory biomarker.
Background: Metabolic processes form the basis of the development, functioning and maintenance of the brain. Despite accumulating evidence of the vital role of metabolism in brain health, no study to date has comprehensively investigated the link between circulating markers of metabolic activity and in vivo brain morphology in the general population.
Methods: We performed uni- and multivariate regression on metabolomics and MRI data from 24,940 UK Biobank participants, to estimate the individual and combined associations of 249 circulating metabolic markers with 91 measures of global and regional cortical thickness, surface area and subcortical volume.

Liver fibrosis is a persistent damage repair response triggered by various etiological factors, resulting in an excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM). Activated hepatic stellate cells (HpSCs) are the primary source of ECM proteins. Therefore, specifically targeting HpSCs has become a crucial approach for treating liver fibrosis.

Hormonal changes throughout a woman's life cycle significantly affect serum lipid levels. Alterations in the serum lipid profile can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Additionally, nutrition and dietary habits are crucial for managing dyslipidemia.
