Two hundred twenty-four consecutive patients (361 graft limbs) who underwent bypass grafting with the USCI Sauvage filamentous velour Dacron arterial prosthesis for aortoiliac occlusive disease over the 9 year period 1970 to 1979 are reviewed. Eighty-four axillofemoral (23 percent of patients), 210 aortofemoral (47 percent of patients), and 67 femorofemoral grafts (30 percent of patients) had cumulative patency rates of 72.1, 91.1, and 86.4 percent, respectively. Experimental and clinical factors influencing the patency of axillofemoral grafts are discussed, and the concept of an improved porous Dacron prosthesis specific for the axillofemoral site is presented.

Background: Fluid balance gap (FBgap-prescribed vs. achieved) is associated with hospital mortality. Downtime is an important quality indicator for the delivery of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).

EGFR status assessment is mandatory for adjuvant decision-making of resected stage IB-IIIA non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NS-NSCLC). It is questionable whether single-gene RT-PCR versus next-generation sequencing (NGS) should be used for this evaluation. Moreover, co-occurring mutations have an impact on tumor behavior and may influence future therapeutic decision-making.

Purpose: Anastomotic ulcers (AUs) are a rare cause of morbidity in intestinal failure (IF). Prior studies of AUs have been small, descriptive reports. We evaluated a large cohort of IF patients to identify risk factors and describe treatment strategies for AUs.

Background: A high percentage of patients with congenital heart diseases (CHD) reach adulthood and, over time, require heart transplantation (HTx) or combined heart-lung transplantation (HLTx). Among CHD, there are subgroups associated with a higher risk.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of HTx and HLTx in CHD patients.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to conduct a follow up analysis comparing operational and quality measures of the pre-residency period with those of a mature program comprised of a full cohort of 15 residents, with 3 residents in each post graduate year (PGY) 1-5.
Design: A retrospective review of 25,900 surgeries performed by the general, breast, plastics, thoracic, and vascular services at a single regional medical center was performed and surgeries were classified as pre-residency period and residency period. Independent variables included patient demographics, comorbidity burden, emergency department arrivals, and outcomes of interest included daily elective case volume, the percent of cases performed during 'off-hours' (defined as 7p-7a), operating room (OR) and procedure minutes, average length of stay (LOS), average total hospital charges, rates of 30-day return to OR (ROR), ED visits, and readmissions, and patient satisfaction.
