Complete genome sequence of Valeriana jatamansi cryptic virus 1: a novel member of the genus Alphapartitivirus infecting Valeriana jatamansi Jones.

Arch Virol

December 2024

Key Laboratory for Agricultural Bioaffiliationersity for Pest Management of China, Ministry of Education, Yunnan Agricultural University, NO. 95, Jinhei Road, Panlong District, Kunming, Yunnan, 650201, China.

Article Synopsis
  • A new dsRNA virus called "Valeriana jatamansi cryptic virus 1" (VJCV1) was found in Valeriana jatamansi plants showing symptoms in Yunnan, with its complete genome sequenced.
  • VJCV1 has two segments of dsRNA, which code for an RNA polymerase and a coat protein, and features unique structures typical of the Alphapartitivirus genus.
  • Phylogenetic analysis indicates that VJCV1 is distinct from other known viruses in the genus, suggesting it should be classified as a new species within Alphapartitivirus, marking the first virus from this group identified in Valeriana plants.

Sesquiterpenoids from the roots and rhizomes of Valeriana officinalis var. latifolia.

Phytochemistry

January 2025

Faculty of Life Science and Technology, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming, 650500, Yunnan, PR China. Electronic address:

The genus Valeriana is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat nervous disorders, sleep disorders, epilepsy and skin diseases. A large number of sesquiterpenoids from this genus have been found to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, anti-influenza virus and neuroprotective activities. In order to discover more sesquiterpenoids with structural diversity and bioactivity from Valeriana plants, fifteen sesquiterpenoids, including ten undescribed ones, valernaenes A-J (1, 5-7, 9-11 and 13-15), were isolated from the roots and rhizomes of Valeriana officinalis var.

Complete genome sequence analysis of Valeriana jatamansi tymovirus 1: a novel member of the genus Tymovirus infecting Valeriana jatamansi Jones.

Arch Virol

September 2023

Key Laboratory for Agricultural Biodiversity for Pest Management of China, Ministry of Education, Yunnan Agricultural University, NO. 95, Jinhei Road, Panlong District, 650201, Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • A new single-stranded RNA virus named "Valeriana jatamansi tymovirus 1" (VaJV1) was isolated from Valeriana jatamansi plants in Yunnan Province, China, which exhibited vein-clearing symptoms.
  • The complete genome of VaJV1 is 6,215 nucleotides long and has three open reading frames (ORFs), fitting the typical structure of tymoviruses.
  • BLASTn analysis revealed that VaJV1 shares significant genetic similarity with okra mosaic virus, and phylogenetic analysis suggests it is a new species within the Tymovirus genus.

Trioecy in Flowering Plants.

Dokl Biol Sci

December 2022

Moscow Pedagogical State University, Moscow, Russia.

Populations of trioecious plants consists of individuals with staminate, pistillate, and hermaphrodite flowers. Trioecy is extremely rare in angiosperms, and relevant data are scarce. A list of trioecious plants found in the global flora was compiled on the basis of literature data and original research.
