Background: Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) is a common late complication in lung transplant recipients (LTR). Chlamydia pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae) is a common but difficult to diagnose respiratory pathogen with a propensity to latency.

Methods: We studied the impact of C. pneumoniae on BOS development using donor-recipient serology obtained before transplantation in a cohort of 76 LTR.

Results: BOS was present in 29.9% patients (mean follow-up 866 days). High donor C. pneumoniae immunoglobulin (Ig)G titers were associated with BOS in the recipient (area under the curve [AUC] 0.71, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.52-0.91, P=0.027), whereas high recipient titers were inversely associated with BOS (AUC 0.27, 95% CI 0.11-0.44, P=0.018). The risk of developing BOS was 75.0% in the case of a primary seromismatch for C. pneumoniae (D+/R-), whereas a reverse mismatch had a risk of 4.6% (likelihood ratio 9.8, P=0.02). In a multivariate model that included human leukocyte antigen matching, acute rejection and cytomegalovirus pneumonitis, C. pneumoniae IgG donor 32 or greater and C. pneumoniae IgG recipient 32 or greater remained positive and negative independent risk factors, respectively, for BOS in LTR. In the freedom from BOS analysis, BOS occurred more frequently and earlier in C. pneumoniae seropositive donors, and the reverse was true in seronegative recipients.

Conclusion: C. pneumoniae serology in donor and recipient is associated with the development of BOS in LTR.

Purpose: Adolescent and young adult (AYA) malignant brain tumour (BT) survivors are at risk of adverse health outcomes, which may impact their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study aimed to investigate the (1) prevalence of physical and psychological adverse health outcomes, (2) the HRQoL, and (3) the association of adverse health outcomes and HRQoL among long-term AYA-BT survivors. Adverse health outcomes and HRQoL were compared to other AYA cancer (AYAC) survivors.

The nuclear lamin network passively responds to both active or passive cell movement through confinements.

Physical models of cell motility rely mostly on cytoskeletal dynamical assembly. However, when cells move through the complex 3D environment of living tissues, they have to squeeze their nucleus that is stiffer than the rest of the cell. The lamin network, organised as a shell right underneath the nuclear membrane, contributes to the nuclear integrity and stiffness.

The Eastern Corn Belt (ECB) node of the Long-Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) network is representative of row crop agricultural production systems in the poorly drained, humid regions of the US Midwest and a significant focus for addressing water quantity and quality concerns affecting Lake Erie and the Gulf of Mexico. The objectives of this paper were to (1) present relevant background information and collection methodology, (2) provide summary analyses of measured data, and (3) provide details for accessing the dataset and discuss potential database applications. The ECB-water quality (ECB-WQ) database is comprised of hydrology and water quality data from three privately owned farms in Northwest Ohio and Northeast Indiana and is available for download through the United States Department of Agriculture Ag Data Commons.

The tongue facilitates vital activities such as swallowing. Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) are common in the elderly and in many adult-onset neuromuscular diseases. In oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD), dysphagia is often the first symptom.

Optimization algorithms play an important role in method development workflows for gradient elution liquid chromatography. Their effectiveness has not been evaluated for chromatographic method development using standardized comparisons across factors such as sample complexity, chromatographic response functions (CRFs), gradient complexity, and application type. This study compares six optimization algorithms - Bayesian optimization (BO), differential evolution (DE), a genetic algorithm (GA), covariance-matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES), random search, and grid search - for the development of gradient elution LC methods.
