The effects of topical administration of polysaccharides isolated from fungus, Phellinus gilvus (PG) on the healing of rat dermal wounds were assessed. In 10 Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, six 6 mm diameter defects were made with a punch biopsy appliance. After 24 hr, test substances were applied to the defects twice a day: 0.025, 0.25, and 2.5% polysaccharides from PG (PG0.025, 0.25, and 2.5 groups), Madecassol ointment (MC group), aqueous gel (AG group) and no treatment (control group). Six days postoperatively, the contraction and reepithelialization of the wound surface were assessed. Wound diameter was significantly reduced in all PG groups (P<0.05). Complete epithelialization and macrophages were noted in the PG0.25 group, as compared to the control group. We conclude that polysaccharides isolated from PG have significant dermal wound healing effects, and this investigation suggests the potential clinical application of PG as a wound healing agent.

The Lentinus edodes polysaccharide (LEP) was extracted with a new subcritical water extraction (SWE) enhanced with deep eutectic solvent (DES) method and then purified with a DEAE-52 cellulose column and a Sephadex G-100 column. Two purified polysaccharides (LEP1 and LEP2) were obtained and their structure, antioxidant activity, and immunomodulatory activity were analyzed. LEP1 and LEP2 were composed of mannose, glucose, and galactose with a molar ratio of 1:12.

Marine bacteria play important roles in the degradation and recycling of algal polysaccharides. However, the marine bacteria involved in fucoidan degradation and their degradation pathways remain poorly understood. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of Isoptericola halotolerans SM2308, isolated from a brown algal sample collected from an intertidal zone of the Yellow Sea in China.

The present study explores the microbial community associated with the industrially important red seaweed Gracilaria dura to determine the diversity and biotechnological potential through culture and metagenomics approaches. In the first part of the investigation, we isolated and characterized 75 bacterial morphotypes, with varied colony characteristics and metabolic diversity from the wild seaweed. Phylogenetic analysis identified isolates in Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria, with Bacillus sp.

A novel phosphate-solubilizing and zinc-solubilizing actinobacterium strain YIM S08009 was isolated from rhizosphere soil collected from Pinus yunnanensis in Wuliangshan National Nature Reserve, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, southwest PR China. Cells of strain YIM S08009 were Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, irregular rods to cocci, and formed yellow and white colonies on nutrient agar. Growth was observed at 10-40 °C (optimum 25-35 °C), pH 6.

RVP, a water-soluble triple-helix galactoglucomannan, was successfully extracted from the fruiting body of Russula virescens using an alkali extraction method. Physicochemical properties analysis showed that the protein content of RVP was low (0.95%).
