This article discusses analgesia and chemical restraint for the emergency patient. As illness or injury affect all organ systems, specific recommendations and considerations of analgesic, anesthetic, and restraining regimens are presented. As animals of all ages, from neonates to geriatric and those that are pregnant or lactating, may require management of their illness or injury, recommendations for these patients are also presented.

Pain and inflammation are common symptoms of a majority of the diseases. Chronic pain and inflammation, as well as related dreadful disorders, remain difficult to control due to a lack of safe and effective medications. In this work, biocompatible platinum nanoparticles with significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory action were synthesized through a wet chemical method using polyethylene glycol-400 as a capping agent and sodium borohydride as a reducing agent.

Mycolactone is a complex macrolide toxin produced by , the causative agent of Buruli ulcer. The aim of this paper is to review the chemistry, biosynthetic, and synthetic pathways of mycolactone A/B to help develop an understanding of the mode of action of these polyketides as well as their therapeutic potential. The synthetic work has largely been driven by the desire to afford researchers enough (≥100 mg) of the pure toxins for systematic biological studies toward understanding their very high biological activities.

Purpose: Corneal pain is one of the most common eye symptoms caused by various types of epithelial injuries, including traumatic abrasion, chemical injury, ulcers, ultraviolet exposure, and infection. However, current therapeutic options for corneal pain are limited. In this study, we synthesized a novel quaternary ammonium compound, N-propylamiodarone bromide (NPA), and employed a rodent model of corneal injury to investigate whether NPA offers prolonged corneal analgesia through transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel-mediated selective cellular entry, without hindering corneal epithelial recovery.
