For a large class of processes with an absorbing state, statistical properties of the surviving sample attain time-independent values in the quasistationary (QS) regime. We propose a practical simulation method for studying quasistationary properties, based on the equation of motion governing the QS distribution. In applications to the contact process, the method is shown to reproduce exact results (for the process on a complete graph) and known scaling behavior to high precision. At the critical point, our method is about an order of magnitude more efficient than conventional simulation.

High-amplitude quasi-stationary atmospheric Rossby waves with zonal wave numbers 6-8 associated with the phenomenon of quasi-resonant amplification (QRA) have been linked to persistent summer extreme weather events in the Northern Hemisphere. QRA is not well-resolved in current generation climate models, therefore, necessitating an alternative approach to assessing their behavior. Using a previously-developed fingerprint-based semi-empirical approach, we project future occurrence of QRA events based on a QRA index derived from the zonally averaged surface temperature field, comparing results from CMIP 5 and 6 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project).

We study the defect solutions of the nonreciprocal Cahn-Hilliard model. We find two kinds of defects, spirals with unit magnitude topological charge, and topologically neutral targets. These defects generate radially outward traveling waves and thus break the parity and time-reversal symmetry.

Investigating disease progression, transmission of infection and impacts of Multidrug Therapy (MDT) to inhibit demyelination in leprosy involves a certain amount of difficulty in terms of the in-built uncertain complicated and complex intracellular cell dynamical interactions. To tackle this scenario and to elucidate a more realistic, rationalistic approach of examining the infection mechanism and associated drug therapeutic interventions, we propose a four-dimensional ordinary differential equation-based model. Stochastic processes has been employed on this deterministic system by formulating the Kolmogorov forward equation introducing a transition state and the quasi-stationary distribution, exact distribution analysis have been investigated which allow us to estimate an expected time to extinction of the infected Schwann cells into the human body more prominently.

Infection spreading in tissue as a reaction-diffusion wave.

Viral infection develops in the organism due to virus replication inside infected cells and its transmission from infected to uninfected cells through the extracellular matrix or cell junctions. In this work, we model infection spreading in tissue with a delay reaction-diffusion system of equations for the concentrations of uninfected cells, infected cells and virus. We prove the wave existence, determine its speed of propagation and introduce a simplified one-equation model obtained from the complete model using a quasi-stationary approximation.

Profenoid drugs are a kind of common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and their chiral enantiomers often have huge differences in pharmacological activities. In this work, a novel chiral separation system by capillary electrophoresis (CE) was constructed using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) functionalized with bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a quasi-stationary phase (QSP), and the enantioseparation of six profenoid drugs was efficiently accomplished. Under optimal chromatographic conditions, the enantioseparation performance of the AuNP@BSA-based chiral separation system was greatly improved compared with that of free BSA (Resolutions, Ibuprofen: 0.
