Objective: To report a family of familial dysalbuminaemic hyperthyroxinaemia(FDH).
Methods: Four members, including the female proband, mother, daughter and brother, went through the measurement of thyroid hormone and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). Electrophoretic analysis of the patient's serum proteins was carried out after the patient's serum being incubated with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) labeled thyroxine(T4), The point mutation of Alb gene was determined in all members.
Results: The measurements of thyroid hormane and TSH showed that in three members (the proband, her mother and her daughter), the total thyroxine(TT4) serum level was high, the total triiodothyronine(TT3), FT4, FT3 and TSH serum levels were normal. And the enhanced albumin binding of fluorescenced T4 by electrophoresis showed a mutation transition 653 G-->A on DNA coding region of albumin. But in the proband's brother, the thyroid function and the results of electrophoresis of thyroxine-binding protein and determination of albumin gene were normal.
Conclusion: A family with FDH in China is firstly reported here, a mutation at albumin gene DNA coding region 653G-->A causing enhanced albumin binding of T4 results in high T4 level.

Background: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant colorectal tumour syndrome characterised by the formation of multiple adenomatous polyps throughout the colon. It is important to understand the extracolonic phenotype that characterizes FAP. Most previous case reports of patients with both FAP and intellectual disability (ID) have described deletions in all or part of chromosome 5q, including the APC locus.

Background: Discussing Advance Care Planning (ACP) with people living with dementia (PwD) is challenging due to topic sensitivity, fluctuating mental capacity and symptom of forgetfulness. Given communication difficulties, the preferences and expectations expressed in any ACP may reflect family and healthcare professional perspectives rather than the PwD. Starting discussions early in the disease trajectory may avoid this, but many PwD may not be ready at this point for such discussions.

Background: The blended learning (BL) approach to training health care professionals is increasingly adopted in many countries because of high costs and disruption to service delivery in the light of severe human resource shortage in low resource settings. The Covid-19 pandemic increased the urgency to identify alternatives to traditional face-to-face (f2f) education approach. A four-day f2f antenatal care (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC) continuous professional development course (CPD) was repackaged into a 3-part BL course; (1) self-directed learning (16 h) (2) facilitated virtual sessions (2.

Background: TP53 variant classification benefits from the availability of large-scale functional data for missense variants generated using cDNA-based assays. However, absence of comprehensive splicing assay data for TP53 confounds the classification of the subset of predicted missense and synonymous variants that are also predicted to alter splicing. Our study aimed to generate and apply splicing assay data for a prioritised group of 59 TP53 predicted missense or synonymous variants that are also predicted to affect splicing by either SpliceAI or MaxEntScan.

Background: Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is an evidence-based pedagogical approach that uses art analysis and structured inquiry to enhance observation, critical thinking, and teamwork, especially in medical training for clinical skills development. This study aimed to compare the short-term and delayed follow-up effects of integrating Visual Thinking Strategies and Visual Thinking Activity (VTA) tasks based on the PRISM Model with Observation Exercises (OE) on medical students' observation skills, including the number of observations, number of words used, and time spent describing observations.
Method: This pre- and post-test experimental study with a control group was conducted among first-year medical students at Gonabad University of Medical Sciences during the 2023-2024 academic year.
