Since the biological activities and toxicities of 'foreign' and/or excess levels of metal ions are predominantly determined by their precise molecular nature, here we have employed high-resolution H NMR analysis to explore the 'speciation' of paramagnetic Ni(II) ions in human saliva, a potentially rich source of biomolecular Ni(II)-complexants/chelators. These studies are of relevance to the corrosion of nickel-containing metal alloy dental prostheses (NiC-MADPs) in addition to the dietary or adverse toxicological intake of Ni(II) ions by humans. Unstimulated whole-mouth human saliva samples were obtained from n = 12 pre-fasted (≥8 h) healthy participants, and clear whole-mouth salivary supernatants (WMSSs) were obtained from these via centrifugation.

Objectives: This study analyzed the effects of parachute jump stress on the executive functions and attention of cadets. Executive functions, which includes processes such as attentional control and cognitive flexibility, are crucial for soldiers, especially in situations requiring rapid decision-making. Parachute jumping, as an intense stressor, mobilizes cognitive resources, which can lead to short-term improvements in executive functions.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the extent and impact of maternal dietary change for colic relief in a cohort of breastfeeding women.

Method: A mixed-method non-sequential approach was devised, including a web-based survey (n = 66) and three semi-structured interviews.

Results: Most women (70 %) changed their diet while breastfeeding a baby with colic and perceived a positive impact on their babies (63 %).

Background: This study aimed to identify distinct trajectories of serum osmolality within the first 72 h for patients with sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) in the MIMIC-IV and eICU-CRD databases and assess their impact on mortality and adverse clinical outcomes.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, patients with SAE from the MIMIC-IV database were included. Group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) was used to categorize distinct patterns of serum osmolality changes over 72 h in ICU patients.
