The superiority of TBI-based versus chemotherapy-conditioning for allo-HSCT in children with ALL has been established in the international, prospective phase-III FORUM study (#NCT01949129), randomizing 417 patients ≤ 18 years at diagnosis (4-21 years at HSCT) in CR, transplanted from HLA-matched sibling or unrelated donors. Due to the unavailability of TBI in some regions and to accommodate individual contraindications, this study reports the pre-specified comparison of outcomes of patients receiving busulfan-based (BU) or treosulfan-based (TREO) regimens from 2013 to 2018. 180 and 128 patients (median age 9.

The retention behavior in supercritical fluid chromatography and its stability over time are still unsatisfactorily explained phenomena despite many important contributions in recent years, especially focusing on linear solvation energy relationship modeling. We studied polar stationary phases with predominant -OH functionalities, i.e.

Article Synopsis
  • The gut microbiota of pediatric oncology patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation may influence the occurrence of febrile neutropenia, particularly through shifts in antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
  • A study involving 18 patients revealed a significant drop in gut microbiome diversity and identified multiple antibiotic-resistance genes one week post-transplant, linked to febrile neutropenia.
  • Key findings indicated that over 50% of patients treated with certain antibiotics harbored resistance genes, making the gut microbiome's diversity and resistome potential indicators of febrile neutropenia outcomes.

The detection of cryoglobulins (CG) used to diagnose cryoglobulinemic vasculitis requires strict adherence to protocol, with emphasis on the preanalytical part. Our main objectives were to introduce a more sensitive and specific protocol for the detection of CG and to characterize CG in Slovenian patients diagnosed with cryoglobulinemic vasculitis, other vasculitides, connective tissue diseases or non-rheumatic diseases examined at the Department of Rheumatology (University Medical Centre Ljubljana). Samples were routinely analyzed for the presence of CG with the protocol using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent.

Total-body irradiation (TBI) based conditioning prior to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is generally regarded as the gold-standard for children >4 years of age with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Retrospective studies in the 1990's suggested better survival with irradiation, confirmed in a small randomised, prospective study in the early 2000's. Most recently, this was reconfirmed by the early results of the large, randomised, international, phase III FORUM study published in 2020.
