The binding constants (logK) of benzene sulfonamides to human CA-II have been modeled using a large series of distance-based topological indices. The need or otherwise of the hydrophobic parameter (logP) for such topological modeling of logK has been examined critically. In both the cases excellent results have been obtained. In multiparametric models involving indicator parameters we observed that introduction of hydrophobic parameter (logP) yields much improved statistics. The results are discussed on the basis of statistical parameters and also by using cross-validation method.

The assessment of humans indirectly exposed to chemicals via the environment (HvE) is an assessment element of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation. The European Union System for the Evaluation of Substances (EUSES) is the default screening tool, aimed at prioritizing chemicals for further refinement/higher tier assessment. This review summarizes the approach used in EUSES, evaluates the state of the science in human exposure modeling via the environment, and identifies areas for further research to strengthen the confidence and applicability of EUSES for assessing HvE.

The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of the nitrocarburizing process carried out in low temperature plasma using the active screen at 440 °C on the structure and physicochemical properties of the 316LVM steel. In the paper, results of micro-structure and phase composition of the layers, roughness, and surface wettability, potentiodynamic pitting corrosion resistance, penetration of ions into the solution as well as biological tests were present. The studies were conducted for the samples of both mechanically polished and nitrocarburized surfaces, after sterilization, and exposure to the Ringer's solution.

The objective of this study was to form sorghum protein gels and explore their application in 3D food printing. Sorghum proteins were used to prepare gels with concentrations of 15 %, 20 %, 25 %, 30 %, and 35 % (w/w) in 70 % ethanol. The gels were evaluated for their rheological and textural properties and utilized as bioinks for 3D printing.

Background/objectives: This study investigates for the first time the use of the prilling technique in combination with solvent evaporation to produce nano- and submicrometric PLGA particles to deliver properly an active pharmaceutical ingredient. Curcumin (CCM), a hydrophobic compound classified under BCS (Biopharmaceutics Classification System) class IV, was selected as the model drug.
Methods: Key process parameters, including polymer concentration, solvent type, nozzle size, and surfactant levels, were optimized to obtain stable particles with a narrow size distribution determined by DLS analysis.
