Psychotherapy has historically been developed on ill people and is applied in the system treating the sick. A healthy person who has no complaints is only in exceptional cases the subject of psychotherapeutic inquiries as to his/her experiences and behaviour. In this article, the pathologising basic attitude is abandoned and the appreciation of one's own life over one's lifetime and the accompanying complex possibilities of prevention are given. The empirical findings provided cover areas of life which show impairment and in which psychotherapy can cause positive changes. Assessments of life contentment are shown by means of various psychotherapeutic methods. The conclusion is that psychotherapy aims at a "productive therapeutic" change with immediate consequences of application.

Background: Life satisfaction, one promising health asset, is associated with reduced risk of several chronic diseases and mortality. Mental health conditions and quality of life (QoL) are important aspects of well-being in late life and are significantly associated with life satisfaction. Despite the complex interrelationships between mental health, QoL and life satisfaction, the current literature has evaluated the simple association between them and failed to consider the complex pathways among these variables, especially among the older population.

Despite extensive research, the relationship between income inequality and life satisfaction remains unclear, with some countries experiencing negative consequences, while others show neutral or positive outcomes. Using data from the Gallup World Poll (2006-2022) with nearly two million respondents from more than 110 countries, we disentangle the distinct within-country and between-country effects of inequality. Our multilevel analyses reveal a significant within-country effect: Temporal increases in inequality are associated with decreases in life satisfaction.

Article Synopsis
  • Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common issue after childbirth that can negatively impact sexual function, child development, and marital stability.
  • A study involved 108 women who were given either organically derived selenium, sodium selenite, or a placebo for 8 weeks to test effectiveness on PPD and sexual satisfaction.
  • Results showed that both types of selenium reduced PPD symptoms compared to the placebo, with yeast-derived selenium having a greater effect, but there were no significant changes in sexual satisfaction in any group after the intervention.
