[Early detection of risk for autism].

Although prognosis for individuals with autism has historically been poor, recent evidence points to improved outcomes with early intensive intervention. But initial contacts usually result in misplaced reassurance, followed by a series of professional consultations before a definitive diagnosis of autism is made. The long delay upsets parents and postpones an appropriate intervention. It is often possible to insure the diagnosis of autism at three. A better knowledge of the first signs of the autism, at the annual visits, and a regular monitoring of the levels of development of the communication and emotionnal engagement of the baby would allow an earlier location.

Background: Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is a feeding and eating disorder characterized by extremely restricted dietary variety and/or quantity resulting in serious consequences for physical health and psychosocial functioning. ARFID often co-occurs with neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs) and psychiatric conditions, but previous data are mostly limited to small clinical samples examining a narrow range of conditions. Here, we examined NDCs and psychiatric conditions in a large, population-based group of children with ARFID.

Background And Objectives: Based on mixed findings from previous research, researchers have hypothesised autism may be a protective or risk factor for age-related cognitive decline/dementia, or that autism does not influence it (parallel ageing). To differentiate between hypotheses, longitudinal studies that account for autism underdiagnosis, are needed and lacking. This study examined if higher autistic traits in adults aged 50+ are associated with a greater risk of spatial working memory (SWM) decline, a key cognitive domain affected in both healthy aging and autism.
