The control of surface wettability of indium tin oxide (In2O3-SnO2) coated glass surfaces is studied. We report here the first observation of purely electrochemical generation of super-hydrophilic surfaces at In2O3-SnO2 electrodes in the absence of an ultraviolet illumination source. This is achieved by the application of high anodic potentials for a prolonged period. Such surfaces are reversibly converted back to their original hydrophobic state on storage in air (one or two days) or water (a week)(and vice versa). The unique character of these surfaces can be attributed to the surface structure of the hydrophilic phase.

Recent advances in interfacial solar steam generation have made direct solar desalination a promising approach for providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly clean water solutions. However, developing highly effective, salt-resistant solar absorbers for long-term desalination at high efficiencies and evaporation rates remains a significant challenge. We present a Janus hydrogel-based absorber featuring a surface modified with thermo-responsive hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) and a hydrogel matrix containing photothermal conversion units, MXene, specifically designed for long-term seawater desalination.

The coffee-ring effect, caused by uneven deposition of colloidal particles in perovskite precursor solutions, leads to poor uniformity in perovskite films prepared through large-area printing. In this work, the surface of SnO is roughened to construct a Wenzel model, successfully achieving a super-hydrophilic interface. This modification significantly accelerates the spreading of the perovskite precursor solution, reducing the response delay time of perovskite colloidal particles during the printing process.

The separation of oil from microalgae aqueous emulsions is a critical step in producing algal-derived biofuels and nutraceuticals. This study presents the development of super hydrophilic and super oleophobic composite membranes to efficiently separate algal oil from oil/water emulsions. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were functionalized with polydopamine (PDA), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and titanium dioxide (TiO) nanoparticles and coated onto a mixed cellulose ester (MCE) substrate to fabricate the composite membranes.

Non-ionic "super-hydrophilic" polymers generally possess strong non-fouling characteristics and, therefore, can suppress non-specific and unwanted interactions with blood proteins when attached to in vivo nanomedicine ranging from drug or gene delivery to diagnostics. In this contribution, we revitalize a protected alcohol functionalized 2-oxazoline monomer, 2-acetoxymethyl-2-oxazoline, that was first reported almost fifty-five years ago and explore the possibility of making "super-hydrophilic" poly(2-oxazoline)s for biomedical applications. The synthesis of the 2-acetoxymethyl-2-oxazoline monomer and its cationic ring-opening homopolymerization and copolymerization kinetics are reported.

The dura trauma or large defects due to neurosurgical procedures can result in potential complications. Dural replacements have proven effective to reduce the risk of seizures, meningitis, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, cerebral herniation, and infection. Although various artificial dural patches have been developed, addressing iatrogenic infections and cerebral adhesions resulting from patches implantation remains a challenge.
