We report the radiological and clinical outcome of 102 consecutive femoral hip arthroplasty we prospectively followed up in 84 patients using the third generation of the thrust-plate prosthesis with a mean period of follow-up of 58 (range, 26-100) months. Four implants were revised: 2 because of an infection and 2 because of aseptic loosening. The thrust-plate prosthesis, which allows preservation of part of the femoral neck, was used in younger patients, 80% were younger than 60 years. In 95 implants, contact was maintained between thrust plate and underlying bone, and in only 3 instances, without any clinical manifestation, did the bone retract from the thrust plate to the extent that a gap appeared. The extent of radiologically evident bone contact with the flat surface of the thrust plate, as a consequence of the bone remodeling behavior, is described and retrospectively classified. The average Harris hip score increased from 51 points preoperatively to 96 points postoperatively at the last follow-up. Survivorship analysis according to Kaplan-Meier showed a survival rate of 98% after 6 years, with no further losses up to the end of the 8-year follow-up period.

The uneven electric field and slow Zn desolvation lead to rapid dendrite growth during Zn plating and stripping, which severely deteriorates the performance of Zn metal anodes (ZMAs) in Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs). Although polymer-based artificial protective (PBAP) layers are widely applied to homogenize the electric field of ZMAs, they often fail to promote the desolvation process that eventually induces Zn dendrite growth. Herein, a bi-functional protective layer, comprising a finger-like porous matrix of polysulfone (PSF) and a hydroxyl-rich filler of agarose (AG), is constructed to suppress Zn dendrite growth.

Article Synopsis
  • Anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) are crucial for controlling dynamic movements like basketball jump shots, particularly under defensive pressure from a shot blocker.
  • A study involving 14 male university basketball players revealed that jump shots performed under pressure resulted in shorter APA duration but increased ground reaction force (GRF) and jump height.
  • The findings indicate that defensive pressure negatively impacts jump shot performance by shortening APAs and correlating increased sway during the adjustment phase with decreased shooting accuracy.

Desiccation-induced cracks in a compacted clay liner significantly deteriorate the hydraulic barrier performance of landfill covers. The present study explores the effects of polypropylene (PP) fiber reinforcement on the hydrological response and crack resistance of compacted steel slag (SS; 90 wt%) - bentonite (10 wt%) mixtures under drying and wetting cycles. Comprehensive tests were conducted to explore the impact of different fiber lengths (6-12 mm) and contents (0-0.
