PDA Virus Filter Task Force update.

Dev Biol (Basel)

BioReliance, Rockville, MD 20850, USA.

Published: April 2005

The PDA Virus Filter Task Force has made significant progress in producing a method that will standardize the nomenclature for virus-removal filters that remove large viruses. A method for preparation of the model bacteriophage, PR 772, has also been produced and will shortly undergo a feasibility study. A technical report on the use of virus removal filters is also being prepared.

Enhanced Anti-Interference Photoelectrochemical DNA Bioassay: Grafting a Peptide-Conjugated Hairpin DNA Probe on a COF-Based Photocathode.

ACS Sens

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Optic-Electric Sensing and Analytical Chemistry for Life Science, MOE, College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao 266042, China.

Precise and sensitive analysis of specific DNA in actual human bodily fluids is crucial for the early diagnosis of major diseases and for a deeper understanding of DNA functions. Herein, by grafting a peptide-conjugated hairpin DNA probe to a covalent organic framework (COF)-based photocathode, a robust anti-interference photoelectrochemical (PEC) DNA bioassay was explored, which could specifically resist potential interference from nonspecific proteins and reducing species. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) DNA was used as the target DNA (tDNA) for the PEC DNA bioassay.

Ischemic stroke (IS), a prevalent cerebrovascular disorder, is characterized by high morbidity rates and significant disability. However, relevant drug therapy for IS still suffers from limitations such as limited blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration efficiency, single therapeutic target, short half-life, and strong side effects. The development of multi-target neuroprotective agents using natural drug molecules with low toxicity and combining them with nanotechnology to improve BBB permeability and drug utilization is an important direction in the development of IS therapeutic strategies.

The stratum corneum of the skin functions as a barrier, obstructing drug absorption and complicating the treatment of skin infections caused by pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses through topical methods. In this research, a microneedle patch was developed, which consists of gelatin-sucrose (SG) that encapsulates polydopamine-copper nanoparticles (PDA@Cu) at the tip for antibacterial purposes. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) served as the primary substrate for the microneedle shaft (PDA@Cu-SG/PEGDA).

WHO declared the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus as a global pandemic (coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)) in March 2020. Molnupiravir (MPV) is an oral antiviral drug that received use authorization for mild to moderate COVID-19 treatment in adults. However, the global and national drug testing and research of MPV is still difficult due to lack of standards and validated procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • - COVID-19 has emerged as a significant global health issue, with about 10-15% of infected individuals experiencing post-COVID-19 syndrome that can result in ongoing symptoms like fatigue, breathlessness, and cognitive issues that may impact their quality of life.
  • - To address these symptoms, treatments like Paracetamol and Dexketoprofen Trometamol are used for pain relief, while Rivaroxaban is prescribed to prevent blood clots for several weeks post-discharge.
  • - A new eco-friendly method, utilizing HPLC-DAD technology, was developed to simultaneously measure these medications, showing effective and reliable results for both bulk and plasma samples according to international standards.
