Published: March 2003

Melatonin exerts its biological effects through pharmacological specific, high affinity G protein-coupled receptors. This review introduced the structure, function, and regulation of melatonin receptor, the cloning and structure, developmental expression, mapping and polymorphism of melatonin receptor gene. The relationship between melatonin receptor gene and reproductive seasonality was also discussed.

Plants exhibit remarkable regenerative abilities under stress conditions like injury, herbivory, and damage from harsh weather, particularly through adventitious root formation. They have sophisticated molecular mechanisms to recognize and respond to wounding. Jasmonic acid (JA), a wound hormone, triggers auxin synthesis to stimulate root regeneration.

Engineered extracellular vesicles play an increasingly important role in the treatment of spinal cord injury. In order to prepare more effective engineered extracellular vesicles, we biologically modified M2 microglia. Angiopep-2 (Ang2) is an oligopeptide that can target the blood-brain barrier.

Background: There is increasing need for effective incorporation of high-dimensional genetics data from individuals with varied ancestry in genome-wide association (GWAS) analyses. Classically, multi-ancestry GWAS analyses are performed using statistical meta-analysis to combine results conducted within homogeneous ancestry groups. The emergence of cosmopolitan reference panels makes collective preprocessing of GWAS data possible, but impact on downstream GWAS results in a mega-analysis framework merits investigation.

Melatonin is a multifunctional biomolecule with demonstrated stimulatory, inhibitory, and antioxidant effects, including both receptor-mediated and receptor-independent mechanisms of action. One of its more perplexing effects is the disruption of regeneration in planaria. Head regeneration in planaria is a remarkable phenomenon in which stem cells (neoblasts) migrate to the wound site, proliferate, then differentiate into all functional tissue types within days of injury.
