: The role of surgery in pancreatic metastases of renal cell carcinoma (PM_RCC) is highly controversial, particularly in the context of modern systemic therapies and the conflicting results of studies published so far. This study aims to explore a single surgical center experience (including mainly pancreatic resections) regarding the indications, the type of pancreatectomies, and early and long-term outcomes for PM_RCC. : The data of all patients with surgery for PM_RCC (from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2023) were retrospectively assessed, and potential predictors of survival were explored.

The emergence of endometriosis-associated clear cell carcinoma (CCC) within the abdominal wall is a notably rare phenomenon. This condition predominantly impacts females who have previously undergone surgical interventions, including hysterectomy or caesarean section (C-section), with the malignant transformation of endometriosis within the post-surgical abdominal scar posited as a likely mechanism. Herein, we delineate a distinctive case of endometriosis-associated CCC emanating from the abdominal wall.

Vestibular Hypofunction in Patients with Presbycusis: A Cross-Sectional Study.

J Clin Med

December 2024

Department of Neurology, Medical Faculty, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, TUD Dresden University of Technology, 01307 Dresden, Germany.

Vestibular Hypofunction (VH) and hearing loss can affect quality of life and lead to disability, especially in the elderly. Studies investigating presbycusis and vestibular function in the aging population have been conducted separately, but few have examined the combination of both conditions in older patients, with inconsistent results that may be due to small sample sizes or heterogeneity in the methods used to assess vestibular function. We aimed to characterize the occurrence of VH in patients with presbycusis using the video head impulse test (vHIT), which is a specific and reliable assessment tool for VH.

Thermotherapy is expected to assist in the prevention of arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular disease in individuals with spinal cord injuries. This study aimed to investigate the impact and underlying mechanisms of whole-body heat stress on cardiac function in patients with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) and healthy controls using head-out hot water immersion (HHWI). Eight male patients with complete motor CSCI and nine healthy controls were recruited.

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare but complex vascular anomalies, particularly challenging when located in eloquent regions such as the corpus callosum and post-central gyrus. This report aims to highlight the management and outcomes of a 41-year-old female patient with a hemorrhagic AVM in these critical areas, emphasizing the importance of early surgical intervention and advanced imaging techniques. The patient presented with a right-sided tonic-clonic seizure and expressive aphasia, prompting imaging that revealed a complex AVM with deep venous drainage and arterial supply from the anterior cerebral artery.
