Background: Dementia is age-related with a significant genetic contribution, yet genome-wide association studies have not fully accounted for heritability. This discrepancy may in part be due to reliance on SNPs and small indels. Human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-based disease modeling can be successfully recapitulated to mimic disease characteristics across various human pathologies. Glaucoma, a progressive optic neuropathy, primarily affects the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). While multiple groups have successfully generated RGCs from non-diseased hiPSCs, producing RGCs from glaucomatous human samples holds significant promise for understanding disease pathology by revealing patient-specific disease signatures.

This research was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ab-interno trabeculectomy (Trabectome and Kahook Dual Blade) combined with phacoemulsification, intraocular lens implantation, and goniosynechialysis in eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma. A total of 47 patients were included in the study and all the patients received the combined surgery. Intraocular pressure, anti-glaucoma medications, best-corrected visual acuity, and the number of peripheral anterior synechiae quadrants were recorded at baseline and at various time points after surgery.

Purpose: Pressure resistance characteristics of the Paul glaucoma implant (PGI) and Ahmed ClearPath 250 (ACP), with and without the insertion of polypropylene thread in their tubes, were evaluated.

Methods: The in vitro flow pressure was evaluated at varying flow rates, both with and without threads (6-0 for PGI and 4-0 or 3-0 for ACP). Cross-sectional areas of the tube lumen and thread were measured to calculate pressure resistance using the Hagen-Poiseuille equation.

Early postoperative bevacizumab for preventing neovascular glaucoma in phacovitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

To evaluate the effectiveness of postoperative intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) in preventing neovascular glaucoma (NVG) and identify associated risk factors in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) undergoing phacovitrectomy. Patients with PDR who underwent phacovitrectomy were enrolled and categorized into two subgroups based on their postoperative treatment regimen: one group received IVB within 2 months following phacovitrectomy (Group 1); the other did not receive IVB during this period (Group 2). A comparative analysis evaluated the distinguishing characteristics of the two groups after 1:1 propensity score matching.
