Phenotypic plasticity can contribute to crop adaptation to challenging environments. Plasticity indices are potentially useful to identify the genetic basis of crop phenotypic plasticity. Numerous methods exist to measure phenotypic plasticity.

In this paper, we present the design, RF-EMF performance, and a comprehensive uncertainty analysis of the reverberation chamber (RC) exposure systems that have been developed for the use of researchers at the University of Wollongong Bioelectromagnetics Laboratory, Australia, for the purpose of investigating the biological effects of RF-EMF in rodents. Initial studies, at 1950 MHz, have focused on investigating thermophysiological effects of RF exposure, and replication studies related to RF-EMF exposure and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in mice predisposed to AD. The RC exposure system was chosen as it allows relatively unconstrained movement of animals during exposures which can have the beneficial effect of minimizing stress-related, non-RF-induced biological and behavioral changes in the animals.

Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic relapsing inflammatory bowel disorders (IBD), the pathogenesis of which is uncertain but includes genetic susceptibility factors, immune-mediated tissue injury and environmental influences, most of which appear to act via the gut microbiome. We hypothesized that host-microbe alterations could be used to prognostically stratify patients experiencing relapses up to four years after endoscopy. We therefore examined multiple omics data, including published and new datasets, generated from paired inflamed and non-inflamed mucosal biopsies from 142 patients with IBD (54 CD; 88 UC) and from 34 control (non-diseased) biopsies.

Global Burden of Early-Onset Ischemic Heart Disease, 1990 to 2019.

JACC Adv

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology Medicine, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China.

Background: Early-onset ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a growing burden associated with high disability and death.

Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the burden of incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) of early-onset IHD from 1990 to 2019.

Methods: Data on the burden of early-onset IHD (men<55 years, women<65 years), including prevalence, incidence, DALY, and deaths, were collected from the Global Burden of Disease study for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2019.

The effectiveness of community-wide screening for pulmonary tuberculosis: a systematic review.

EClinicalMedicine

January 2025

Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Department of Global Health, Stellenbosch University, Western Cape, South Africa.

This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of community-wide screening for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in high-burden areas by analysing randomised controlled trials (RCTs). The review focused on interventions offering TB screening to entire communities, comparing them to standard care or alternative approaches. The main outcome assessed was microbiologically confirmed TB diagnoses, including rates and prevalence.
