Higher-order cognition in humans has not generally been viewed as closely entwined with the brain mechanisms mediating more basic perceptual-motor interactions in 3-D space. However, recent findings suggest that perceptual and oculomotor mechanisms that are biased toward the upper field (which disproportionately represents radially distant space) are activated during complex mental operations, ranging from semantic processing to mental arithmetic and memory search. The particularly close affinity with upward conjugate eye deviations--further confirmed in a study of 24 schoolchildren who responded to various mental questions and demands--suggests that active, abstract thinking in humans may have expropriated the focal-extrapersonal brain systems involved in saccadic exploration of the distant environment in other primates.

Objective: To establish a similarity measurement model for patients with dentofacial deformity based on 3D craniofacial features and to validate the similarity results with quantifying subjective expert scoring.
Methods: In the study, 52 cases of patients with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusions who underwent bimaxillary surgery and preoperative orthodontic treatment at Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from January 2020 to December 2022, including 26 males and 26 females, were selected and divided into 2 groups by sex. One patient in each group was randomly selected as a reference sample, and the others were set as test samples.

Objective: To develop an original-mirror alignment associated deep learning algorithm for intelligent registration of three-dimensional maxillofacial point cloud data, by utilizing a dynamic graph-based registration network model (maxillofacial dynamic graph registration network, MDGR-Net), and to provide a valuable reference for digital design and analysis in clinical dental applications.
Methods: Four hundred clinical patients without significant deformities were recruited from Peking University School of Stomatology from October 2018 to October 2022. Through data augmentation, a total of 2 000 three-dimensional maxillofacial datasets were generated for training and testing the MDGR-Net algorithm.

: Accurate determination of the natural head position (NHP) is essential in orthognathic surgery for optimal surgical planning and improved patient outcomes. However, traditional methods encounter reproducibility issues and rely on external devices or patient cooperation, potentially leading to inaccuracies in the surgical plan. : To address these limitations, we developed a geometric deep learning network (NHP-Net) to automatically reproduce NHP from CT scans.

Background Introduction: Vestibular schwannoma (VS) tumors typically present with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Losartan has recently demonstrated prevention of tumor-associated SNHL in a mouse model of VS through suppression of inflammatory and pro-fibrotic factors, and the current study investigates this association in humans.
Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients with unilateral VS and hypertension followed with sequential audiometry at a tertiary referral hospital from January 1994 to June 2023.

In skull base surgery, the method of using a probe to draw or 3D scanners to acquire intraoperative facial point clouds for spatial registration presents several issues. Manual manipulation results in inefficiency and poor consistency. Traditional registration algorithms based on point clouds are highly dependent on the initial pose.
