D-glucosaminic acid (2-amino-2-deoxy-D-gluconic acid), a component of bacterial lipopolysaccharides and a chiral synthon, is easily prepared on a multigram scale by air oxidation of D-glucosamine (2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucose) catalysed by glucose oxidase.

It is well established that the dynamic hydration shell plays a vital role in macromolecular functions such as protein-ligand, protein-protein, protein-DNA, and protein-lipid interactions. Here we investigate how the water modality affects conformational changes, solubility, and motion of fibrillar proteins. The hypothesis is that the introduction of a poly hydroxyl amino acid would increase solvation of the fibril forming peptides, preventing their misfolding and aggregation.

Recently, there has been considerable interest in the functions of gut microbiota in broiler chickens in relation to their use as feed additives. However, the gut-microbiota of chickens reared at different altitudes are not well documented for their potential role in adapting to prevailing conditions and functional changes. In this context, the present study investigates the functional diversity of gut-microbes in high-altitude (HACh) and low-altitude adapted chickens (LACh), assessing their substrate utilization profile through Biolog Ecoplates technology.

In this study, glucosaminic acid (GlcNA) was produced with the highest yield of ∼85% from chitin biomass-derived glucosamine (GlcN) at 35 °C under atmospheric air in water, by using zinc oxide-supported gold nanoparticles (Au/ZnO). The Au/ZnO catalyst prepared by the deposition-precipitation (DP) method displayed remarkably superior catalytic performance to that prepared by the deposition-reduction (DR) method, which led to >2-fold enhancement in product yield. A lower apparent activation energy (E ) was observed over the Au/ZnO (DP) for GlcNA formation compared with the Au/ZnO (DR) catalyst.

d-Glucosaminate-6-phosphate ammonia-lyase (DGL) is a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzyme that produces 2-keto-3-deoxygluconate 6-phosphate (KDG-6-P) in the metabolism of d-glucosaminic acid by serovar typhimurium. We have determined the crystal structure of DGL by SAD phasing with selenomethionine to a resolution of 2.58 Å.
