Diving mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and humans develop dysbaric osteonecrosis from end-artery nitrogen embolism ("the bends") in certain bones. Sixteen sperm whales from calves to large adults showed a size-related development of osteonecrosis in chevron and rib bone articulations, deltoid crests, and nasal bones. Occurrence in animals from the Pacific and Atlantic oceans over 111 years made a pathophysiological diagnosis of dysbarism most likely. Decompression avoidance therefore may constrain diving behavior. This suggests why some deep-diving mammals show periodic shallow-depth activity and why gas emboli are found in animals driven to surface precipitously by acoustic stressors such as mid-frequency sonar systems.

Multiple conditions can cause hypoxia in the testis, including exposure to high altitude, sleep apnoea, testicular torsion and varicocele. Varicocele accounts for up to 44% of instances of primary infertility, but the cumulative contribution of hypoxic conditions to male infertility is undefined. Results of controlled hypobaric hypoxia studies have demonstrated a substantial detrimental effect of short-term and long-term exposures on sperm; however, downstream effects on embryo development and offspring health are less well understood.

Study Question: Is there a difference in the cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) after fresh testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) compared with the use of either pre-frozen sperm or oocyte freezing for couples experiencing ejaculation failure on the day of oocyte retrieval?
Summary Answer: After adjusting for confounding factors, the use of pre-frozen sperm or the freezing and thawing of oocytes appeared to be as effective as TESA in achieving CLBRs for couples experiencing temporary ejaculation failure.
What Is Known Already: Male patients may be concerned about experiencing temporary ejaculation failure on the day of their partner's oocyte retrieval, in which case they may choose surgical sperm retrieval, oocyte freezing on the day, or have their sperm frozen in advance. However, the clinical efficacy of these three options has not yet been evaluated.

Introduction: This study investigated the impact of the carrier on transferable blastocyst rate and live birth outcomes in couples with structural chromosomal abnormalities.
Methods: Couples were grouped into reciprocal translocation, Robertsonian translocation, or inversions groups, and clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. Preimplantation genetic testing for chromosomal structural rearrangements (PGT-SR) was conducted, and pregnancy outcomes were compared.

Objective: To study the reliability and effectiveness of the percutaneous sperm retrieval technique.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the records of 123 consecutive patients with obstructive azoospermia who underwent percutaneous sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) using Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA) with or without a rescue Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA). We compared patients who had the first sperm retrieval ever and patients who had more than one sperm retrieval performed.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of changing the insemination method in women who experienced poor embryonic development during the preceding cycle. A total of 15,886 conventional IVF in 9,311 women, performed between August 2015 and June 2023, were included in this study. Of these, 270 couples experienced IVF failure due to poor embryonic development in the first oocyte retrieval (OR) cycle, which was cancelled before transfer.
