Microorganisms which can assimilate 2-phenylethanol were screened from soil for oxidation of various alcohols into carbonyl compounds. One strain, identified as Brevibacterium sp. KU1309, had high oxidative activity towards ArCH(CH(3))CH(2)OH and Ar(CH(2))(n)OH. When the substrate concentration was 0.1 approximately 0.4% (w/v), the oxidation reaction proceeded smoothly (6 approximately 96 h), and the corresponding carboxylates were obtained in good yields (68 approximately 87%).

Breast cancer is the deadliest cancer among women and its treatment using traditional methods leads the patient to experience adverse effects. However, photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive therapy modality that works through a photosensitizing agent, which treating activated by a suitable light source, releases reactive oxygen species capable of treating cancer. Furthermore, recent research indicates that combining PDT and nanoparticles can enhance therapeutic effects.

Context: Designing efficient sensitive materials for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as ethanol, acetone, and benzene is stringent owing to the significant environmental and health risks induced by these compounds, in addition to their role as biomarkers for chronic diseases and food quality. This study investigates the adsorption mechanisms of VOC molecules (ethanol, acetone, and benzene) on both non-oxidized and oxidized SnO (110) monolayers and identifies the most suitable surface for gas sensing applications. For this, we examined structural properties, adsorption energies, density of states, gas responses, and recovery times.

The intramolecular migration of three hydrogen atoms from one moiety of a gaseous radical cation to the other prior to fragmentation is an extremely rare type of redox reaction. Within the scope of this investigation, this scenario requires an ionized but electron-rich arene acceptor bearing a para-(3-hydroxyalkyl) residue. The precise mechanism of such unidirectional 3H transfer processes, including the order of the individual H transfer steps, has remained unclear in spite of previous isotope labelling and recent infrared ion spectroscopy (IRIS) studies.

Electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a promising alternative for oxygen evolution reactions. The search for efficient catalysts has been attracting increasing scientific attention. This work explores the performance of nitrogen-doped graphene-supported single-atom catalysts (M-NC SACs) for the reaction.

This article discusses the recent study written by Koizumi . Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a major cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality, which is driven by complex mechanisms, including lipid accumulation, apoptosis, and inflammatory responses exacerbated by gut barrier dysfunction. The study explored the therapeutic potential of elafibranor, a dual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha/delta agonist.
